Breanna Stewart vs. Marta Xargay: Who's got the right idea for their daughter's sports career?

While the Olympics ended with the Team USA women’s basketball clinching their eighth consecutive gold, the Paris fever is still not over. Demonstrating a liking for the quadrennial event, Team USA star Breanna Stewart shared a picture of her two children on the social media networking platform X which had even her wife Marta Xargay stating her views. And it looked like the partners were at odds against each other in a hilarious way when deciding the future of their children.

Stewie tweeted on X that her children will be part of Team USA during the 2044 Olympics. “Team USA 2044 🤣 @PHEEsespieces,” Stewart wrote. To which her partner Xargay replied “Or maybe Ruby will be Team España 2044!!!,” while resharing the snap. In the picture, both of their children Ruby Mae Stewart Xargay and Theo Josep Stewart Xargay are seated near the court wearing Team USA colors on their t-shirts.

This prompted Stewart to mention that both might be playing for Team USA in the foreseeable future once they grow up. Xargay who was born in Girona, Spain, and holds a Spanish citizenship, replied that their elder daughter Ruby might want to play for Spain! The tweet came off as a hilarious remark for fans who must have laughed their hearts out seeing the two balling stars decide the future of their kids at such a tender age. Their teasing is a result of a strong bond and the duo share much love for each other.

Stewart met Xargay first when the duo were playing in a Russian league in the 2018-19 season. Despite initial shyness, by 2019 the two athletes got closer after Stewie was injured. Cut to 2021, the duo decided to strengthen their blossoming relationship by tying the knot. In August 2021, after Stewie brought a gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics, the couple welcomed their first child Ruby, and in October 2023 they had their second kid, Theo. Other than the gold medal, Stewart will be celebrating for another reason.

Breanna Stewart excited for another major reason

Good news seems to come to Stewart in bundles. After bagging her third Olympic gold medal, Stewart would be excited to plan for the upcoming Unrivaled League which is set to start in January next year. Started as a brainchild of Stewart and Napheesa Collier, the league grew its roots in the NCAA basketball circuit after they signed Paige Bueckers and gave her an equity share in the league. With the aim to bring the newest 3*3 format to the people, the league has garnered a lot of support after they signed the WNBA rookie Angel Reese.

As for her kids, there is still a doubt about their future since they can hold the citizenship of both Spain and the USA. Hence, fans will be keen to see what Ruby has to say about this once she grows up. As for now, viewers are waiting for the Unrivaled to commence and enhance the balling culture in the USA.
