Chicago Sky looked to be a promising team, up until the Olympics break. Post that, the ‘Windy City’ franchise suffered a series of injuries or health conditions in Chennedy Carter, Angel Reese Kamilla Cardoso, Elizabeth Williams, and Diamond DeShields among others that look to be the primary reason for the Chicago-based team not making it to the playoffs. Reese was their only saving grace in the season, who catapulted the Sky to great heights with her doubles-doubles but couldn’t save them from the misfortune.
While the playoff dreams for the team are over this year, a concerned Reese should not worry much as her former LSU teammate is ready to join and support her, probably.
According to the latest mock draft WNBA 2025, the LSU forward Aneesah Morrow could be the third overall pick for the year. In a list dominated by the Los Angeles Sparks-Paige Bueckers, Morrow could join the Sky, who will most probably take the third pick of the draft. Morrow is famous for double-doubles much like Reese and the two could end up dominating the paint. The Chicago-born used to ply her trades for the DePaul University from 2021 to 2023 and chose to head over to the LSU Lady Tigers for her junior year.

Welcoming her with open arms, the Lady Tigers helped form a strong bond between Reese and Morrow. And Morrow justified her transfer by scoring a brilliant 37 points with 16 rebounds against the Virginia Cavaliers just in her eighth game for the LSU. Even when the former NCAA Champion took a four-game break in November, Mulkey relied on Morrow to get the job done and surely she got it done.

Overall, Morrow averaged 16.4 points per game with 10 rebounds per game along with a 46.4% field goal. The 21-year-old scored 20 double-doubles and could be the missing link in the Sky’s pursuit next year. Hopefully, the duo will enjoy their time, if they get to be together as per ESPN’s 2025 WNBA mock draft, and maybe relive some of their LSU days, especially when the two took the Lady Tigers to the Elite Eight. And surely this partnership will yield great results for Chicago.

How can Aneesah Morrow help Chicago Sky?
2024 was the Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s maiden season with the franchise. While Weatherspoon tried her best to rebuild the team, the Sky lacked in their offense. They found comfort in Carter, who tried her best to go on offensive sprees but failed to show consistency. They also traded away their only deep shooter Marina Mabrey midway through the season. As a result, due to their poor shooting, Reese had to rebound many of her team’s shots. This helped the rebounds per game go up, as they topped the chart, with their offensive game suffering.

Hence, Morrow coming into the team gives the Sky an option to decimate their opponents ruthlessly. Though Morrow won’t give them a chance to improve their three-point shooting game, she can provide the much-needed support for shooting from inside the paint and off the glass. Other than that, it will also allow the Sky to rotate Reese, who has been their main player throughout the season, thus leading to better player well-being and management.
However, it remains to be seen if the mock draft comes true and Morrow joins the Sky. Meanwhile, fans are sure that she would have talked to Reese about it and perhaps the double-double sisters will nail games when they meet next.
