Amongst the many stars on the Las Vegas Aces roster, A’ja Wilson often stands out. However, the 2019 first-overall pick, Jackie Young, isn’t too far behind her teammate. In fact, her numbers have not only impressed the basketball world but also her veteran teammate Chelsea Gray. The 31-year-old point guard finally made her season debut tonight and could not help but praise Young in their first game together this season. In the 94-83 win over the Seattle Storm, Young produced almost a third of the points. Consequently, the returning ‘Point Gawd’ has exactly three words for the young star.
The official X handle of Vegas Sports Today shared a clip of Gray from last night’s post-game press conference. The 31-year-old guard said, “That girl’s so good. I ain’t saying it’s not every time I huddle, get on the floor, I think she’s going to do amazing things. So, it’s not that it’s been something different. It was amazing to be able to pass in the basketball this time and be out there on the floor and see her get that thirty-two. And be out there with her but, that girl good.”
“That girl good.”

Chelsea Gray made her much-awaited season debut after she got injured during last year’s WNBA Finals Game 3 due to a left foot injury. Since then, Young has taken on a more dynamic role, and this season, she is shooting for the stars. Last night, Jackie Young bagged 32 points and 4 rebounds. She capped those numbers with 2 assists and 2 steals as well. Certainly, in her 35 minutes on the floor, the young hooper positively impacted the game.
These big numbers came out after just two games where she made a duo record alongside A’ja Wilson. But surely, the Aces are walking on thin ice. They are standing on the fifth playoff seed, showing an urgency to get better soon.
What do Chelsea Gray and the Aces have to face before the Olympics break?
Next, Las Vegas will be hosting arguably the best team in the league right now, and the table toppers Connecticut Sun. The team has shown great promises and has so far only lost one game. That defeat too came from last year’s WNBA finalists, the New York Liberty.
While it will be their first meeting of the season, Chelsea Gray is ready for them. She shared her thoughts on tackling the Sun in her sideline interview. She said, “They’re playing really well. We’ve been able to see them a little bit from afar when we’re able to catch games. So, we’ll lock in for them. Watch some film, rest up, and get ready for Friday.” Seemingly, the 2x reigning champions are not afraid of a fine team like Connecticut, even if they’ve had some defense issues in the past.

While over the past few losses of the reigning champions, many have believed there to be some constraints within the team, Becky Hammon too had to answer the trust issue among the teammates. However, watching Chelsea Gray praising Jackie Young can be proof enough that the team is quite stable and certain of their roles.
