As of now, it’s just a speculation that has sparked some inquisitiveness about the upcoming NCAA women basketball season. At the center of this curiosity is Caitlin Clark’s next move. The Iowa Hawkeyes point guard has to make a major decision. She has to either choose another college season or get ready for the WNBA draft.

Clark will be turning 22 in January 2024 and become eligible for the WNBA draft. The Naismith Player of the Year 2023 award winner divulged during the Iowa Media Day that she would enjoy everything as it might be her last season with the Hawkeyes. The Iowa-born would be eligible for another NCAA Championship season because of the COVID-19 waiver enacted in 2020-21. But she was drafted with the Indiana Fever and if it comes true, then it would be a spectacle for the fans to see the National Player of the Year 2023 make a duo with Aliyah Boston.

Aliyah Boston used to ply her trade for the South Carolina Gamecocks in the NCAA championship before making her debut with the Indiana Fever. The Virgin Islands-born was drafted as the first overall pick in the WNBA draft and also unanimously voted as the Rookie of the Year. Overall, Boston pocketed an average of 14.5 points with 8.4 rebounds per contest and 2.2 assists per game. About 40% of her points came from three-pointer field goals.

On the other hand, Clark is known for having the highest assists average in the nation (8.6) along with the highest number of three-pointers (140). Whereas as in scoring average (27.8), Clark occupies the second position. This makes her a good fit with Indiana Fever as Aliyah Boston would contribute with her rebounds while Clark could participate with her assists. Clark has often been compared with Sabrina Ionescu for her skills.

Boston seems to have established her name even though she has just made an appearance for a solitary season. The power forward played alongside veterans like Erica Wheeler, NaLyssa Smith, and Kelsey Mitchell. If she continues to improve her game and basket perimeter shots, then Boston will become a threat with Clark on her side. Clark also has the record in the college circuit for having the most 25+ points, 5+ assists and 5+ rebounds (33).

The Indiana Fever will have a meteoric rise similar to the Minnesota Lynx who after five disappointing seasons clinched their first championship title in 2011. The team underwent a transformation when they hired Cheryl Reeve as their head coach and did a number of transfers during the off-season.

Some Hope in Indiana

The selection of Maya Moore instilled hope in the fans who believed that the Lynx would be top contenders for the silverware. And it did happen as Seimone Augustus, Rebekkah Brunson, Moore, and Whalen gave some of their best performances.

In the similar way, if Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark are given a free hand and allowed to run the game as per their instincts, then it could mean exponential growth for the Indiana Fever.

Caitlin could be a missing link for Indiana as she is best known for her transitional offense and logo-threes that could power the franchise to the Final Four in the coming season if Caitlin is drafted by them and given time on the court.
