The Las Vegas Aces are nowhere near their previous year’s glory. While they won two back-to-back championship titles in the past two seasons, this year the Aces are currently poised with a 6-5 tally. And much of it can be pointed to the injury suffered by their mainstay players. While Jackie Young had to be out due to an injury, Chelsea Gray hasn’t had the chance to make her debut up till now. And their head coach Becky Hammon spilled the beans on Hammon’s much-anticipated return.
Fans and basketball analysts are waiting for Gray’s comeback. Hammon was asked the same question when she was present during the post-match press conference of the game between the Aces and the Phoenix Mercury.

Hammon gave a sweet and short reply on Friday. But since Hammon is a woman of few words, she didn’t divulge anything much after that. “I’d say it’s around the corner,” Hammon stated, via the postgame conference. Gray’s fans were hoping that she would come back in the next game against the arch-rivals New York Liberty.
Gray has been sidelined after she suffered a left leg injury during Game 3 of the WNBA Championship Finals series against the New York Liberty back in October. Despite her absence, the Aces performed exceptionally well and clinched the series 3-1 winning their second consecutive Championship title. Since then Gray has been rehabilitating and recovering from her injury.
Though she did attend the Paris Olympic basketball camp, Gray couldn’t be seen practicing. And she hasn’t also made her season debut this year. However, fans are hopeful for her quick comeback since she was listed as one of the 12 players on the Paris Olympic team. The upcoming game against the New York Liberty will be a tough one since the two were at loggerheads during the WNBA Finals series last year. Hence, it would be great if Gray made a comeback against Liberty only. Plus, the Aces are having a bumpy season this year.
Chelsea Gray’s team is having a hard time in her absence
The Aces will clash against the New York Liberty in the next game. They have bounced back well from a defeat against the Minnesota Lynx. Next, they clashed against the Phoenix Mercury and won that game by a close margin of 103-99. Though the Aces’ have adjusted to Gray’s absence, they wouldn’t want to extend it, especially considering that crucial matches are coming up next.
Gray had previously also shared that she would be back soon. She had admitted to taking care of her recovery and not trying to rush things “You don’t want to play when you’re rushing yourself back into shape. So, I don’t really have a timetable. But I’ve seen [suggestions] that I’m out for the year, and that’s just not true,” Gray stated as per ESPN.
