Caitlin Clark or Angel Reese? It has become a new topic of debate as the two superstars from the NCAA now polarize the WNBA crowd. On one hand, Caitlin Clark gives her fans a spectacle with long-range threes and impeccable passes. On the other, Angel Reese, with her relentless pursuit to win, brings touches for her team. The two have been climbing up every ladder that they are presented and more often than not, stand together at the top. Hence, can they both share the Rookie of the Year award?

Probably! Just a few hours ago, the WNBA announced that both rookies have been named All-Stars. This is yet another record that the two broke after bringing in over 5 million views combined through their three matchups so far. Moreover, the race for the two becoming ROTY had these as the two frontrunners after Cameron Brink, the second overall pick announced she would miss the entire season post her ACL tear.

If we look at the college career of both the rookies, they have competed, brought in fans, and set the floor on fire. Both have gotten better of the other. As a result, they shared the 2023 Sporting News Athletes of the Year award. But when we come to the WNBA, they have proved their doubters wrong time and again.

Many agreed that they would be amazing professional hoopers but doubted their quick transformation. However, the lottery picks have shown that they have much more potential than the bar that others are setting up for them.

Caitlin Clark came into the league and blasted all doors despite carrying the heavy burden of being a generational talent. By becoming the first rookie to achieve multiple milestones, she swept the Rookie of the Month in May. She is leading the entire league in three-pointers attempted and is third in 3PM stat. Moreover, she tops the league in assists as well. As for the rookies, she is leading them in points per game apart from these previous stats. Interestingly, in her game against the Phoenix Mercury, she almost became the first WNBA rookie to log a triple-double but came 1 rebound short. She is currently averaging 16.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game.

But Angel Reese is also giving a fair competition to Caitlin Clark. With tonight’s game, she has added a total of 11 consecutive double-doubles after she left the legend Candace Parker behind with 9 such stat lines. She is also in the second spot for rebounds in the entire league, only trailing the reigning MVP A’ja Wilson. Moreover, she is the only rookie who is averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game so far. As a result, she caught the Rookie of the Month for June.

There is no denying that these two rookies have surpassed the expectations of a rookie and won the hearts of their veterans. While Rookie of the Year is at least 20 more games away for both, we will see them shock the world as they join hands in the All-Star team later this month.
