The 10,340 fans present at the Crypto.com Arena on May 26th witnessed their home team suffer a heartbreak. Despite the best efforts of Cameron Brink, who had a career night, the LA Sparks faltered in the closing moments, losing 83-84 at the hands of the Dallas Wings. However, for Brink’s mother Michelle, the disappointment was something else.
Jeff Smith, Angel Kent, and Kelly Broomfield were the names chosen to officiate this encounter. Following this, they were at the receiving end of some criticism from the Nike Footwear Merchandiser. In the first half itself, Cameron Brink had a very nasty collision with the Wings’ No.25 Monique Billings. This was after Brink decided to cut to the basket but was met by Billings near the arc. As a result, Brink fell to the floor hard. Anyhow, this incident didn’t receive any attention from the officials and the play resumed afterward.
No matter, Michelle Bain-Brink didn’t think it fitting to let this altercation slide. She went to her Instagram account and shared a clip of this on-court moment in one of her stories. Clearly, her exasperation was visible as the story included two frowning emojis attached to the caption, “No foul.”

To add to their misery, the next ten seconds resulted in Brink’s third personal foul when both these athletes came face to face yet again. Nonetheless, that didn’t stop the 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year from ending her night by making a bold statement.
Cameron Brink joins the elite of women’s basketball
Despite the loss, Cameron Brink almost became a knight in shining armor for the Sparks. She joined the 2× WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson to become only the second WNBA player to register 12+ points and 2+ blocks in the opening quarter of any contest. She was able to make the most of her tremendous start as she ended her night with a career-best 21 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Moreover, Brink was 7 of 12 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. The eye-catching aspect of her game was her prowess from beyond the arc, with 50% of her shots landing in the back of the basket (3 of 6).
