“Yeah, I’m single. I don’t got no man. Don’t attach me to no man. That’s all I’mma say. That’s it.” Angel Reese confirmed her split with millionaire boyfriend Cam’Ron Fletcher last year. Since then, the 22-year-old Maryland native has been the subject of speculation regarding her relationship status. Not only that, but her dating life has also been a hot topic for guests on her Unapologetically Angel podcast. And her recent interaction with a former NFL star is no exception.

For a recent episode of Reese’s podcast, Cam Newton ended up giving the Chi-Town Barbie a lesson on dating. It all started when Newton asked her if she’d date a guy who made less money than her. Reese initially stalled but ultimately sparked a popular debate.

“I have a standard of what I live up to and how I live my life,” Reese said. “And as long as you can meet up to that and meet my expectations, then yeah. And as long as it’s genuine.”

Newton, however, wasn’t on board with her take. He doesn’t believe it to be realistic. So when Reese threw in the same question at him — roles reversed — he responded with a “provider and protector” philosophy.

“Every man looks at his situation as ‘my money is our money. Her money is her money,'” the NFL quarterback explained. He didn’t stop there—Newton went on to claim that 99% of women wouldn’t date a man who earns less than them, while 99% of men don’t mind dating a woman who earns less.

While Reese respects that, she made it clear that she’s not just looking for a partner—she’s looking for someone who meets her level. “Don’t be going out of your way trying to buy me stuff you can’t afford,” she said, adding a luxury metaphor. “That’s like going into a Louis Vuitton store and buying a bag that’s $3,000, but you can’t buy it twice.”

Translation? Know what you are getting yourself into. And Reese has a pretty clear picture of her bar and let us tell you, it is no easy to meet.

When asked what car she’d be in a quick Q&A posted by Unrivaled, the Chi-Town Barbie compared herself to Rolls Royce in terms of maintenance. “I’m a big Rolls like Cullinan, like custom inside, custom outside, gotta take it to the shop, can’t drive her too much, big double R,” she had said. So well, Reese’s preference extend well beyond her need for a man taller than her; 6’7” or “6’8″ preferably.

Cam Newton's 'provider' philosophy vs. Angel Reese's standards—who's got it right in modern dating?

Have an interesting take?

While Angel Reese focuses on her career, she has set high standards for love

Reese’s dating life first became public in June 2023, when she and Cam’Ron Fletcher, after six years of friendship, officially confirmed they were dating. This came shortly after the two were spotted enjoying a vacation in Jamaica before getting matching tattoos.

But ever since their split, Reese’s priorities have shifted. She’s now more focused on building her career, securing her future, and expanding her empire. Just a few days ago, she even gifted her “hardworking” mom a house—something made possible through her impressive endorsement deals with McDonald’s, Reebok, Reece’s, and more. On Unrivaled? She’s stepping up her game, focusing on shooting and defense and alongside Napheesa Collier and Lisa Leslie at that.

Of course, with a focus on career, it is natural a relationship possibility backtracks. So while she’s not closing the door on romance forever, she does have a type. “A high-caliber man. A smart, nice, and genuine man. But he cannot be a house husband,” she stated firmly. Someone in the NBA? Even better. It is not just the height factor, but the fact that an athlete would be more understanding of her demanding schedule. So yes, Reese may be ready to date, but there are more than a few screens to pass through.
