Caitlin Clark’s stardom started building when she was with the Iowa Hawkeyes. With her transition to the WNBA, her popularity became a boon for the league, and even in her second year, it’s no exception. On May 4, the Indiana Fever will take on the Brazilian National Team for a preseason game that fans have already been eagerly anticipating. But no one expected YouTube megastar MrBeast to insert himself into the frenzy. Let’s just say fans aren’t all in for it yet.

It all began after Iowa Athletics revealed that presale tickets opened on February 27 for donors and season ticket holders, with prices ranging from $60 to $200. Within 45 minutes, every seat was spoken for, and demand far exceeded supply. And then, amidst the chaos, a millionaire YouTuber was requesting a seat for himself too.

His simple yet bold request—“Can I get one?”—under a post announcing the sellout sparked a wave of reactions.

For those unfamiliar, MrBeast is one of YouTube’s biggest content creators, known for his extravagant giveaways and larger-than-life stunts. However, his recent engagement with the WNBA has been, well… new. In fact, earlier this season, he admitted on social media that he had never watched a WNBA game before this year.

Well, MrBeast’s love for sports comes from his own experience. “Being a successful YouTuber, you could almost compare it… to being a professional athlete,” he once said. And it all makes more sense considering the Beast Games had him recording 15 hours a day while already accumulating more than 360 million subscribers.

Didn’t get it? Caitlin Clark shares a similar kind of love for her craft as MrBeast does for his. But that sudden fandom, combined with his ticket request, didn’t sit well with many Clark and Fever supporters.

What’s your perspective on:

Is MrBeast's sudden WNBA interest genuine, or just another publicity stunt to grab attention?

Fans immediately dived into the comment section and started firing back at MrBeast. “Leave us alone, MrBeast,” one user requested. “Just so y’all know, MrBeast been a fan,” added another spectator. In fact, this isn’t the first time he has committed to watching a WNBA game. “Someone remind me to watch their next game, this is insanity haha,” he previously shared on X.

And honestly, fans aren’t wrong either. Die-hard Iowa and WNBA followers who have been supporting the game for years were left empty-handed while a YouTuber with billions of views casually asked for a seat.

However, one fan did point out—“He’s the only one that can afford the ones on the secondary market.”

Clark’s homecoming is quite nostalgic for fans, as it’s the same place where they watched her emerge as a phenom. When she left Iowa, she was already the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer and the first Division I player to record 3,800 points, 1,000 assists, and 950+ rebounds in her collegiate career.

“Please no,” another fan commented. As if that wasn’t enough, she continued breaking records after being selected as the No. 1 pick by the Indiana Fever.

“F–k no, he has got to stay away,” added another fan. While it took some time for her to find stability in the pros, once she did, she was unstoppable. She shattered 19 records along the way, including the most three-pointers and most assists by a rookie. Not just that, she’s also the league leader in assists, averaging 19 APG.
