The Sheryl Swoopes v/s Caitlin Clark saga seems to be never-ending. Despite the Indiana Fever rookie’s record-breaking season, Swoopes has yet to fully acknowledge her greatness. Consequently, Indiana & CC fans have bashed the retired 3x WNBA MVP on several occasions for being biased. Moreover, Swoopes’ latest claim has landed her in hot water, and a resurfaced video from Clark’s soccer days is adding insult to injury.

On the back of Caitlin Clark’s impressive averages of 19.5 points, a league-high 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds, the Fever will make their first playoff appearance in 8 years. Yet, when Sheryl Swoopes spoke about her on Tuesday’s Gil’s Arena podcast, she claimed that the 22-year-old was “not dominating” even though her post-break turnaround has been “impressive.”

Unsurprisingly, this statement renewed the backlash from CC fans. Meanwhile, in another corner of the social media world, a fan posted a clip of Clark’s high school soccer heroics. If this is the first you are hearing of the Iowa native’s soccer talent, brace yourself. According to her father, Brent Clark, “She probably could have been the same sort of talent in soccer that she is in basketball. She could have been on USA, junior-national type teams.”

The evidence to back her father’s claim was right there in this clip posted on X. Clark played as a freshman for the Dowling Catholic High School. In a game against the WDM Valley, after receiving a brilliant beyond-half-line assist, Clark scored a stupendous goal, taking against two defenders and the opposition goalkeeper.

Even in the comments section under this post, Sheryl Swoopes wasn’t spared.

Caitlin Clark fans leave no stone unturned in trolling Sheryl Swoopes

In her February appearance on the Gil’s Arena podcast, Sheryl Swoopes also made a declaration about Caitlin Clark that has now backfired, like her other comments. “Will Caitlin Clark be a good pro? Absolutely. Will Caitlin Clark come into the WNBA and do what she’s doing right now, immediately? Absolutely not,” she had confidently said, adding, “Not gonna happen.”

But as good as Clark’s basketball prowess is, so are her soccer skills. In only 6 games in her freshman year, she scored a mammoth and unheard-of 26 goals. But in Sheryl Swoopes’ head, the number would’ve been 25. At least, that is what one fan hilariously claimed. “Sheryl Swoopessaid that wasn’t a real goal.”

Judging by Swoopes’ recent past of criticizing Clark, another fan trolled her on how she might now instinctively switch to being a dual-sport critic just to put Clark down, writing, “Sheryl Swoopes gonna discredit her soccer skills now!

Clark’s multi-sport talent also puts her in the same league as Michael Jordan and NFL’s Deion Sanders, who excelled at more than just their core sport. This might’ve easily frustrated Swoopes, reckoned one X user. “Oh no Sheryl Swoops punching air right now – she’s good at soccer too.”

Clark was a full-fledged soccer star in her own right. Since the age of 5, she routed through the opponent’s defense to score countless goals, so much so that her father had to tell her to stop scoring. One CC fan also referenced the aforementioned 26-goal record to emphasize her greatness. “Her soccer #s were ridiculous too, like 26 goals in 8 games or something. Her dad said she could have been just as good had she gone that route.”

A couple of fans also highlighted how her soccer-induced awareness and agility are paying off big on American female basketball’s biggest stage. “Her pitch awareness -> her court awareness.

Caitlin Clark’s soccer lore is also as legendary as it gets. Her 26-goal record also made her the first freshman to be inducted into the all-state first-team. Her former youth coach also described her as a “powerful player”. Well, Sheryl Swoopes might not be as happy with CC fans dragging her here, but such trolling has become a part of the social media game.
