Caitlin Clark. You know the name. NCAA all-time leading scorer, WNBA Draft pick No. 1, Rookie of the Year, TIME Athlete of the Year. You name it, she’s done it. And now she can add jersey retirement to that long list of accolades as her no. 22 is hanging proudly in the rafters of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. But through all these huge milestones, there’s one person who’s been by her side cheering loudly: her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery.

In case, you didn’t know, Caitlin and Connor’s love story began in 2023 at Iowa, where they were both athletes. From the stands to social media, they’ve been supporting each other every step of the way. So, naturally, this weekend when CC celebrated her jersey retirement, he was there, seated in the press row beside Clark, soaking in the moment with her. 

After Iowa’s big win over USC, the 23-year-old stood with her family at center court, watching her jersey rise to the rafters alongside two other Iowa legends, Megan Gustafson (No. 10) and Michelle Edwards (No. 30).

It was a moment she’ll never forget, right in front of her former coach, Lisa Bluder, and her current coach with the Indiana Fever, Stephanie White. And her besties Gabbie Marshall and Kate Martin were there too, cheering her on from courtside. A sellout crowd of 14,998 fans packed the arena to witness history in the making. 

Everything seemed picture-perfect, right? Fans at the game, fans at home, everyone was watching in awe. But here’s the thing that had fans pretty frustrated. As the Fever star jersey went up, she walked toward Connor, ready to embrace him in a sweet hug. 

But just as she went in for the hug, the broadcast, Fox, cut out. Yes, right at that moment when fans were dying to see them embrace, the camera just switched away, leaving fans at home totally blindsided. The internet went wild, with blurry clips of the moment being shared all over social media.

Fans lose it over live cut during Caitlin Clark’s big moment

One shared two very blurry pictures of the two hoopers writing, “When they seriously cut the live right before this!!!!” Caitlin Clark & Connor McCaffery have quickly become one of the most cherished couples, and their fans have grown used to seeing their subtle PDA moments and internet posts that give off all the relationship goals vibes. 

But since they keep things pretty low-key, moments like these are a real treat for fans. So, yeah, missing out on it due to a live cut? Definitely a bummer.

And then, one fan mocked the blurry picture that came from the cut, sarcastically calling it “Quality content…😂😂😂” It was so fuzzy it barely looked like a real moment. Fans were having a laugh at how “clear” the clip was. Not clear at all. 

Some fans weren’t giving up that easily, though. They started urging others to find a recording from a different angle and upload it to social media. “Someone has to have it 😭,” one fan said, desperately hoping to get their hands on a clear version of the moment. 

Another chimed in saying, “I was mad! I’m watching from home and they cut the broadcast right when she went into his arms.” It’s worth mentioning, though, that while in-house fans got to witness every single moment from their own angle, fans at home had to rely entirely on the broadcast. And when it gets cut right at the peak of the moment, well, FOMO kicks in really hard. 

“I know, right!  I wanted to see more of her interactions with everyone, especially Connor!” added a fan, echoing the same sentiment. We know that CC is amazing on the court, but fans are also really into her off-court life. Especially her interactions with Connor. 

It’s clear that people are hooked on their relationship, and this was an important day to get a glimpse. So, when they got that brief moment only to have it yanked away? The disappointment is understandable.

But, thankfully, amid all the chaos, one fan came through and shared a high-quality clip of Caitlin Clark melting into Connor’s arms. Finally, the moment was seen and appreciated by all. So, those fans who were upset earlier finally got to see the hug after all. And they were happy, even calling the user (who shared it) ‘a blessing.’
