Ever since Caitlin Clark entered the WNBA, the league’s popularity has skyrocketed. Her on-court rivalry with Angel Reese has been one of the most talked-about storylines–and it’s not cooling off anytime soon. Fittingly, the WNBA is launching its first-ever Rivals Week in 2025. And guess who’s headlining? That’s right! Clark and the Indiana Fever will take on Reese and the Chicago Sky in one of the main matchups. Let the fireworks begin!

The battles between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese during their rookie seasons were nothing short of box office. In fact, they drew some of the WNBA’s highest viewership numbers in over two decades. For instance, the Fever’s 100-81 victory in Chicago pulled in 1.6 million viewers, peaking at 1.92 million. The hype was so real that the Sky are moving their home matchups against the Fever to the United Center to accommodate the massive fan demand.

This past season marked the third year the NBA hosted its Rivalry Week. The New Orleans Pelicans, with Zion Williamson, faced off against Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, though neither star played in the January 24 matchup. Now, the WNBA is following suit this year.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert praised the concept according to Yahoo Sports.  She noted that it’s the perfect timing for the league. With Rivalry Week falling right in the midst of teams’ final playoff pushes, it adds extra excitement. “You can have a great partnership, but you also have to have great activation,” said Cathy. “There’s going to be a full slate of games that week and that’s going to be a cool part of the activation.” Rivals Week will be sponsored by Ally Financial, a new partner for the league this season.
