The Indiana Fever has won the draft lottery for the second time in a consecutive year. This means a flurry of hope for Indiana and a chance to rebuild their team. Their general manager Lin Dunn threw her arms in the air to celebrate the occasion.

This has sent a strong signal to their rivals since the NCAA sensation Caitlin Clark might be drafted by the Fever. It would mean a fierce display by them in the upcoming WNBA season, but will Clark declare for the draft? And how have things progressed so far?

The Indiana Fever were exalted when they consecutively won the WNBA draft lottery for the second year. This meant that they would get a chance to have the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft. The Seattle Storm occupied the fourth position, the Phoenix Mercury were posited at third and the Los Angeles Sparks would have a chance of getting the number 2 pick.

The stats too spoke a favorable story for the Indiana since multiple no. 1 picks have happened back-to-back only for the fourth time in the WNBA history. Seattle received the top pick in 2001 and 2002, repeating their phenomenon in 2015 and 2016.

And the other time it happened was when Las Vegas got the picks in 2017-19. What follows their story is more special since all these franchises registered the WNBA title to their name within the next four years. This begs us to come to another question – Will the number one projected pick the Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark pair up with the Indiana star Aliyah Boston?

If Clark chooses to declare for the draft, she will be drafted by the Indiana which will get her an opportunity to play alongside her NCAA rival and Team USA longtime friend, Boston.

The Indiana drafted Boston in the previous season as the no. 1 pick and now it seems the perfect time for Clark to sweep all with her exemplary performances in the WNBA. If the duo get to play alongside each other then it would be one of the best pairs to don the jersey in the WNBA.

What does the Clark and Boston duo mean?

While Clark is known for her exceptional adjustment qualities, Boston is a forward for Indiana who is extremely good with her shooting. She is also known to be quite selfless not caring about her points but always making sure that her team gets the better of their opponents.

The 22-year-old was crowned the WNBA Rookie of the Year unanimously. She became the first rookie to lead the WNBA in shooting with an exceptional 57.8% field goal percentage.

The Fever management trusted her as she was given an average of 31.2 minutes in the 40 games she played where she potted 14.5 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per contest. The Virgin Islands-born smashed 11 double-doubles in the season, also amping up her defensive skills at times when she lacked in scoring.

Boston has been a treasured addition to the Fever roster. The 2x Naismith Defensive Player of the Year has shown sparks of her formidable defense when the team needed it. Clark on the other hand has shattered records like a cakewalk. She has become the first player in the NCAA history to have 3000 points with 750 rebounds and 750 assists. The Iowa Star has thrashed 40 or more points in a game for a record 9 times.

The stats quite clearly show that Clark has not only contributed in all departments but dominated with her display. The Des Moines-born is marching to break the WNBA star Kelsey Plum’s record of having the most points in the NCAA women’s history, trailing by less than 500 points.

With Clark in their team, they could get a guard who could complement their star Kelsey Mitchell, who was outstanding the previous season but didn’t get the recognition she deserved because she was on the losing side.

Boston expressed her happiness on the current scenario and stated “It’s just going to be another talented player that we can use to help build us back to the franchise the Fever were.”

She could fill up a gap in their team tactics which might help keep the WNBA title record, for the team that picks the top prospect consecutively, by guiding the Fever to WNBA glory.
