Caitlin Clark's humility despite her earnings—Is this the kind of role model sports needs today?

Caitlin Clark has often been compared with her rival Angel Reese. The two stars have had similar trajectories, becoming the most popular NCAA athletes from the 2022-23 season onwards and being drafted in the same WNBA draft as top picks. Hence, fans make sure to compare their careers, skills and even their lifestyle. And in one such instance, Clark appeared to be more humble than the Chi-Town Barbie.

The former NCAA Queen was present in the season exit interview on Friday after the Fever were eliminated from Round 1 of the Playoffs where she answered questions ranging from her gameplay to her popularity. And during one such question, Clark shared her take which revealed how down-to-earth she is.

“Yea I mean I feel like it’s like everybody is watching your every move no matter what you’re doing and I feel like the best thing that I’ve tried to live by is just be the same person that I am off the court whether I’m leaving my apartment every single day or whether I am here sitting in front of all you all. I’ve tried to approach it in the same exact manner that I can and treat everybody with the same amount of respect that I can and to try to build really good relationships with people,” Clark stated.

Clark during her NCAA days was more popular than her teammates. Nonetheless, she didn’t look at it from an air of superiority and has formed close bonds with her Iowa teammates Gabbie Marshall, and Monika Czinano. Coming into the WNBA, she has again formed special bonds with Lexie Hull and Katie Lou Samuelson and even went for a Mexico trip with them during the Olympics break. Thus, Clark has tried to remain as grounded as she can be.

“And obviously some days are going to be tougher than others and some days are going to be amazing that’s just life and I will give my parents a lot of credit. I feel like I was raised in a way like you want to treat every single person with respect and I feel like I have a really good feel on you know basketball isn’t my everything and that’s the way I was raised you know basketball is something that I absolutely love to do but there was a lot of other things that I had to have done in my life whether it was school, whether it was you know emptying the dishwasher or taking out the trash..,” Clark enumerated.

Born in Des Moines on January 22, 2002, to Brent and Anne Nizzi-Clark, Caitlin had humble beginnings. She developed a passion for basketball at a young age, drawing inspiration from simple idols such as Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx. Hence, growing up she was inculcated fine values. She carried a respectful attitude as she made it into the NCAA, and was once also checked by her father for arguing with the referees during a game against the Holy Cross last NCAA season. Thus her parents have a vital role to play in her personality development.

Clark has often maintained a polite attitude despite having a net worth of $3.8 million which is $1.8 million more than her competitor Reese’s net worth of $2 million. Plus if fans are to be believed then Reese despite having a lesser net worth isn’t as grounded as Clark and can often be seen with her flamboyant style on the court, which is confirmed by a recent incident.

Angel Reese chooses money over fame

I mean we didn’t grow up poor but we didn’t grow up where we had all the money and everything,” Reese revealed during an interview for the Chicago Sky on Tueday. The double-doiubles Queen had previously divulged that her school was right across a prison and if not for the basketball scholarships, she wouldn’t have able to attend college throughher mother’s finances. May be all this taught Reese that life wasn’t easy and she had to fight it out for her piece of the cake. Hence, when Reese was asked in one of her podcast episodes if she would prefer money or fame, the Maryland-born didn’t shy away from admitting that money was more important to her.

“I rather be rich than famous. Everybody wanna be famous. But they don’t really know what come with it. It’s unlike all the connections and stuff you make but sometimes you just live a normal life like we was talking about like just being able to walk down the street casually. And now I have always take pictures and sign autographs like sometime when I just want to live a normal 22 year old life like that’s what I would say,” Reese stated which somewhere points out that while Clark does not mind staying away from the spotlight and not giving interviews, Reese, though not crazy for fame, would still want it for the money that comes with it.

Now that Clark has once again impressed her fans, she would like to spend the off-season, taking a break. And with it comes to Reese, she might increase her popularity with her new podcast.
