Despite being considered a mere effect earlier in the season, Caitlin Clark stands out among the 2024 rookie class in terms of performance. Every time the No.1 pick by the Indiana Fever steps onto the court, she ensures to leave after shattering a new record. Whether it’s a triple-double, assists, or three-point shooting, she has nailed it all. But she’s not done yet, heading towards another legendary achievement, and not alone at that.
With the help of teammate Aliyah Boston, Clark roared on the hardwood with a dazzling 26 points, 12 assists, and five rebounds in the thrilling game against the Atlanta Dream. But she wasn’t the only one shining on the court. The Fever’s #7 forward supported her while dropping 30 points with 13 rebounds. This marked the “double-double duo’s” third instance of recording a 20-point double-double. This puts them just below legends Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike.

This came just three days after recording their second double-double together. In a September 4th game against the Los Angeles Sparks, Clark contributed 24 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds to the team’s total. Boston, during the same game, hit 24 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. “I’m proud of us. I thought we chipped away, we were resilient, and we really executed when it mattered,” said Clark. But when did it all start?
It all began when no one noticed—right before the Olympics break on July 13th against the Phoenix Mercury. That’s when both Clark and Boston hit double-doubles in a single game. While Clark secured 20 points with 13 assists in 38 minutes of gameplay, Boston posted 21 points and 13 rebounds. With three double-doubles together in a single game, Clark and Boston are only two more away from a historic triumph. But for them, that’s not the ultimate goal.

With the chemistry the team displays, a few more historical records may well be within their reach.
“We’ve really taken time as teammates to really get to know each other on and off the court and I think it serves to what you see now… We have got an unbelievable chemistry now to where it’s unspoken,” Kelsey Mitchell spoke last week, iterating that the bond has translated into their game on court. 2-8 record post-Olympic break, there’s no doubt about that. And it isn’t just visible on court as the team heads towards its first playoff in years.

During a recent post-game interview, when Boston was asked whether the game against the Atlanta Dream had a playoff feel, Clark immediately interrupted.“We’ve never played in a playoff game though,” she reminded everyone. Boston replied that she was asked to assume, but Clark jokingly threw a soft gauntlet by saying, “Can we predict the future?” Everyone had a soft grin when Boston responded, “Maybe.”
The team has 5 more games to go before face they most likely face No.3 Connecticut Suns in the best-of-three playoffs, with a 1-3 series record. It will be quite the challenge to counter for the surging Fever.
