When the Chicago Sky clashed with the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, it brought a host of fans. The game was considered being important since there were narratives of Angel Reese clashing against her idol A’ja Wilson. The WNBA rookie at the moment has more rebounds than the W’s original rebounding queen Wilson. However, not only did Reese go past Wilson in rebounds in the game, she also overtook Caitlin Clark, who had earlier teased Reese with her viewership record.
Averaging 1.22 million viewers on CBS, the game went past the million mark in viewership and made it the most-watched game that did not feature Clark. This was the 20th game of this WNBA season that had an average of 1 million viewers, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished since 2008. Before this season only 15 games had touched the 1 million mark, out of which this was the third game that did not feature Clark and touched the million mark.
WNBA tops million viewer mark yet again, and in a rarity Caitlin Clark and the Fever were not involved.

While Reese smashed a WNBA viewership record as being the most-watched game this season that did not feature Clark, the latter on the other hand went ahead of viewership records on NBA TV when she battled it out against the Minnesota Lynx, which was special for one more reason. The game had an honoring ceremony for the WNBA legend Maya Moore, whose jersey number 23 was being retired by the Lynx on Saturday.
The matchup brought about 569,000 viewers on NBA TV which makes it the most-watched WNBA game in the network as per Sports Media Watch. The game peaked at 705,000 viewers during the final quarter, only stands behind 5 NBA playoff games in the 2023-24 season that involved more audience. This does not come as a surprise since Clark is considered the W’s favorite child and had smashed viewership records even during her NCAA days. But what happens when the two come together?
WNBA All-Star game brings its own viewership with it
The Indiana Fever has crossed paths with the Chicago Sky in three games during this year’s WNBA, however, none of the games have brought in as many viewers as the WNBA All-Star game. The All-Star game played just before the Olympics break in July had Reese, Clark, Wilson, and a host of other W athletes taking the hardwood against each other.

For the record, the All-Star game had a reported viewership of 3.44 million viewers becoming the most watched W game on any ESPN network. It had more than double the mark of the previous All-Star viewership of 1.44 million set in 2003 as per Front Office Sports.
