On August 15, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark found herself at the center of the Fever For Change golf fundraiser. The event, which brought together fans, staff, players, and coaches, took an unexpected turn when the mother of a newborn approached her with a surprising request. Claiming to be Clark’s “biggest fan,” the woman boldly asked Clark to hold the infant. After a brief hesitation, the rookie took the plunge and cradled the tiny fan in her arms. She then signed the baby’s onesie. But why?

It was a personal touch by Clark herself. “It (signing autographs) puts into perspective how special these moments are for people — whether they meet you or not. Getting to enjoy this environment and this experience of the game is what really makes lifelong memories for them,” Clark expressed in an interview on August 18.

She even recalled an experience where a young girl approached her mother at the airport. Since it was the girl’s first-ever Fever game, Clark’s mom kindly gave her one of Clark’s trading cards. It meant so much to the young fan that the moment she held the card, it brought tears to her eyes. Fortunately, the young fan was finally able to meet Caitlin Clark in the tunnel after the game.

“It’s fun; the more we win, the more I sign. A lot of those people travel from really far to get here. To just have one experience with us in this gym, that’s really cool. It puts into perspective how special these moments are,” Clark added. Now you understand why she brought up 94% of the audience in WNBA arenas in May.
