The 2024 All-Star game is officially sold out! Basketball fans have swept away all the seats for this fiery and exciting event. The reason? We have seen how much people love to see the NCAA arch-enemies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese go against each other. The highest viewership mark of 3.3 million is proof. But on July 20, they might be on the same side. Their potential short-term team-up might be one of the best things for the WNBA. But what about the fans?
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have become household names. For this very reason, their fans have been showing them love. Only these two rookies landed in the top-10 All-Star voting list in the first round. The 2x NPOY is slightly behind the 2x MVP A’ja Wilson and is consistent in the second spot. On the other hand, Angel Reese has taken a big leap. When the WNBA first released its official list last weekend, the Sky rookie was in the seventh spot. However, after Sunday’s win and an eighth consecutive double-double, she has climbed to the fifth spot.
Per the #WNBA, A’ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark lead the fan voting after the first round votes for the 2024 All-Star list.
A’ja leads all players with 217,773 votes. Caitlin is second (216,427).

But after all the rage about these two being rivals, the possibility of entering the floor as teammates might not only be earth-shattering for many but quite unacceptable. Whenever some conspiracy has cooked around the two, fans have been polarized to pick their favorites. In their first matchup in the WNBA, after Chennedy Carter hip-checked Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese cheered for her vet. This was taken personally by some Fever fans who attacked the Chi-Town Barbie.
Reese’s flagrant in the next matchup also divided the fans. While the first overall pick’s supporters cheered her for her classy response, the Chi-Town Barbie’s fans thrashed the Fever rookie for always taking the high road. However, the “special whistle” comment again fueled the fire, and these instances were enough for the fans to irk at the idea of them being teammates.
Let us see how the aggressiveness between these two rookies does not seem to die.
It is always Caitlin Clark vs the Angel Reese
One of the biggest pushes that the league has received in the past is the fiery competition between these two rookies. In all three of their matchups, they have broken viewership records. The last one peaked at a whopping 3.3 million. They have confessed that both have been going at each other since high school. And we have seen how their NCAA competitions garnered all the attention.
Hence, the battle between the two for advancing to the first spot is clearly in full swing. And so is their race to win the Rookie of the Year award. Looking at their stats, Angel Reese has become a leader for the Sky. Impressing everyone in the paint, she is leading the rookies in rebounds with 11.1 rpg right now. But Caitlin Clark is too flowing with the current and is leading the rookies with 16.3 points and 6.6 assists per game. The recently crowned back-to-back Honda Cup winner is also in the top five assist leaders in the league through the sixth week.

These two rookies are not only leading the 2024 WNBA draft batch in numbers but are impressive when compared to the veterans as well. Hence, the competition between the two is quite apparent. While the two going against each other is also a motivation for the fans to show up, them possibly holding hands and taking one for the team might be too. It will truly be interesting to see how this story unfolds.
