With stars like Breanna Stewart, is the WNBA finally getting the recognition it deserves?

The superstars Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu are back from Paris. Of course, their return also means that the stars from Hollywood will also be sitting courtside, cheering on their icons. For the New York Liberty, their very first outing against the LA Sparks brought Aubrey Plaza to the Crypto.com Arena. And while she may be conjuring chaos in the MCU, she has definitely learned how to be quiet when it comes to basketball. But the injury did not keep her from celebrating Stewart’s stellar performance on the West Coast.

The Liberty traveled to Los Angeles blazing through, as they slid past the hosts in the 103-68 win. The 35-point victory was certainly something to celebrate. But what excited the crowd of 11,120 fans was Breanna Stewart’s MVP-esque form. The reigning WNBA Finals MVP grabbed 27 points in 10-15 shooting from the field. Of these, she had 3 of 4 hits from beyond the arc, bringing her night’s three-point shooting to 75% from the deep.

The brilliant shooting obviously had stars watching and one of them was the friend of the franchise– Aubrey Plaza. After the game, the two shared greetings which the official Instagram account of the ESPNw posted. “Breanna Stewart and Aubrey Plaza shared a moment after the Liberty’s win over the Sparks,” the caption read.

After her funny enough ACL injury during the WNBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix, surely Plaza has resorted to the sideline. Nevertheless, it is good to see the support that the actress extends to the league’s table-toppers of the season. And why not?! Here is how the entire Sandy Brondello crew performed in LA.

Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty keep on shining

It is breathtaking how the UConn legend continues to give her best to the team. What is more spectacular is the squad itself which does not believe in giving up. After a long, injury-ridden half, all the players of the Liberty have assembled to continue to push for the second trip to the Finals. Of course, they are taking it one game at a time. As for tonight, there were quite a few athletes on the team that stood out alongside Breanna Stewart.

Have an interesting take?

For starters, literally, New York kept the hosts to just 10 points in the first quarter. On the other hand, they scored 29 points in the opening ten minutes of the night. While the Sparks cut off some buzz for the Liberty in the following quarters, they could not match the dominating offense and defense from the visitors. Sabrina Ionescu, fellow Olympian to Breanna Stewart, joined her to grab 18 points as a starter. Although Leonie Fiebich only grabbed 4 points, she had 4 steals as well.

Kayla Thorton’s 16 points off the bench with 2 steals also proved how well-rounded this team is. Jonquel Jones and Courtney Vandersloot combined for 17 points and 9 assists with Jones bringing in 2 steals to wrap up the night from the starters. The rest of the bench added 21 points, 3 blocks, and 4 steals with Nyara Sabally’s 9 rebounds to make the win smooth like butter.

Now, the Liberty is on a 22-4 run. Interestingly, Breanna Stewart will next face her Olympic partner in the paint A’ja Wilson‘s Las Vegas Aces. In their first matchup, New York led the way with a 90-82 win. Will Wilson and Co. equalize the tally?
