Only eleven athletes so far have swept away an Olympic gold, a FIBA World Cup title, a WNBA ring, and an NCAA championship. One of them who still continues to go hard at the curveballs is Breanna Stewart. The New York Liberty star has already garnered all the love, respect, and accolades that one could have hoped for in the world of basketball. However, let us not forget where her true aim to take down every opponent began. That is in the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
The winning ways and the long-lasting history of the school continue to shine to date. From Rebecca Lobo to Sue Bird to the only 6x Olympian basketball player Diana Taurasi, all have come from Storrs. But Breanna Stewart has also been paving her own way in the sport; continuing to grow it in her own grounded way.
Hence, as the superstar joins Teresa Edwards along with A’ja Wilson to recreate an Olympic record, let us learn more about her numbers and achievements under the tutelage of one of the best coaches in women’s basketball history in the NCAA– Geno Auriemma.

Under review: Stats and records
Breanna Stewart was already a big name in the world of basketball. In fact, before even getting into UConn, she had accumulated 4 gold medals while representing the USA. Hence, it was only natural for Auriemma to make this expert in sport a starter. In her freshman year, the 2x Olympic gold medalist started 36 of 37 games with the Huskies. She averaged 13.9 points going 50% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. She also averaged 6.2 rebounds per game.
Playing a total of 152 games in four seasons, Breanna Stewart averaged 17.57 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.75 blocks per game. The Cicero native had an accuracy of 53% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc. Moreover, she was the team leader in scoring, rebounds, and blocks throughout her UConn career except her freshman season. But the 6-ft-4 forward led the team in her first season with 2.1 blocks on average.

Is Breanna Stewart the greatest college basketball player ever, or does someone else take that crown?
Have an interesting take?
She has the second-highest score in UConn’s all-time scoring list with 2,676 points. She is the only player in the NCAA history to record 400+ blocks and 400+ assists. Consequently, she surpassed Rebecca Lobo for the most blocked shots in the Huskies history with 414 blocks. Even her board game was spot on in UConn as she wrapped her four-year career there with 1,179 rebounds and fourth on the all-time list.
Breanna Stewart has quite aptly displayed her potential in the sport. But she also has rewards to give a physical sense to her legacy at UConn.
A dive into Breanna Stewart’s pot of gold from Storrs
The Huskies have seen many great days under the Hall of Famer head coach Geno Auriemma. The 70-year-old head coach, who will now enter his 38th season in Storrs, has brought multiple NCAA titles to the town. However, even he has not been able to repeat what his guidance with Breanna Stewart brought. The only time that the Huskies went on a 4x back-to-back National title run was with the New York native at their helm.
Breanna Stewart joined UConn after openly setting her goal in four years, becoming an NCAA champion. Little did she know that she would become a UConn legend and one of the most celebrated basketball players before she even reached the age of thirty.
Indeed, following her goal, in her four years as a Husky, from 2013-16, she brought four National titles to UConn. “It wasn’t a sense of relief, it was a sense of success. This is exactly what we wanted,” Stewart had said post-victory. Along with that, she has 34 more personal accolades that are displayed in her trophy chest.
Here is the list of titles she received throughout her collegiate career.
- Senior CLASS Award (2016)
- 3× Naismith College Player of the Year (2014–2016)

Additionally, she also has personal feats in the ACC conference. She was the AAC Player of the Year, Tournament MVP, and the First-team All-AAC from 2014-16.
