The Los Angeles wildfire has caused widespread destruction claiming the lives of many and displacing more than twenty thousand people from their homes. Thousands of houses have been reduced to rubble. In these challenging times, several organizations are stepping up to offer support and resources to help those affected by the disaster. The community remains resilient, and efforts to rebuild and heal continue.
In these tough times, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier’s newly founded basketball league ‘Unrivaled’ has decided to help the Los Angeles community. Micky Lawler, the league’s commissioner, took to X, to announce that the league is stepping in to help with the ongoing situation. He said, ”We are heartbroken by the devastation continuing to unfold in Southern California and in the great city of Los Angeles. We applaud with the utmost respect and humility the heroic efforts put forth by all of the First Responders and are appreciative for any contributions to the listed items needed below, posted by the LA Fire Department Foundation.”
He added, ”As a collective, Unrivaled players, staff and partners will expedite a shipment of essentials and will stand by for further assistance. Our thoughts are with the greater LA community and all those impacted by these tragic fires.”

It is a one-of-a-kind basketball league that is set to pay the players a six-figure salary and equity which is unheard of in the pro women’s sports industry. Unrivaled is currently valued at $ 100 million and is set to offer 15% in equity to the players participating. This means $15 million to the players.
With the rise of the WNBA, thanks to the likes of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, Unrivaled will look to grow by leveraging its on-demand players like the Bayou Barbie. It also opens up a path for those who want to play basketball professionally during the offseason as opposed to playing abroad.
