“These are your last two MVPs of the past two WNBA seasons”. Hardly there is a WNBA fan who doesn’t have an idea who is Rebecaca Lobo referring to. And certainly, Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson are proving why this was so, as both these phenomenal athletes have been the cream of the crop so far in the “The Greatest Dynasty” chosen for this year’s Paris Olympics. However, this is not the first time that these rivals turn teammates have shared the court together. Well, if someone would have to guess the timeline for that, it would be a bewildering task.
The post-game press conference of the AT&T WNBA All-Star game had many interesting segments. One of the entertaining and intriguing ones was when a reporter showed a throwback picture of Liberty’s dynamic Power Forward Breanna Stewart. As it turns out, it features Stewart and the Ace’s kingpin A’ja Wilson celebrating a gold medal moment together. The initial reaction of the 29-year-old to this was, “Oh My God. This has to be U-19. This is funny. We need to reenact this”.
Following this, the 2× WNBA champion called out her Team USA teammate who was busy with her media address to ask if she had come across this picture. After seeing it, Wilson just like Stewart loved it and subsequently expressed her elation. As for Stewart, she conveyed the “reenact” message to the 2023 WNBA Finals MVP as well. “We’re going to reenact this,” she declared.

Evidently, this picture is from their time together in Lithuania. This is when both were a part of the gold medal-winning team in the U19 World Championship in 2013 and certainly, Stewart would remember the moment.

Breanna Stewart was the team’s best performer, garnering an average of 16.9 points per game. Simultaneously, Wilson also left her mark by finishing the tournament at 10.9 p.p.g. Moreover, Stewart ended up being the tournament’s MVP and grabbed the USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year for the second time after its conclusion. Thus, she joined the likes of Teresa Edwards, Lisa Leslie, Cheryl Miller, Dawn Staley and Diana Taurasi in this elite list. Although, she became the youngest among all to achieve this feat.
Apart from that, the two have played side by side for Team USA in a major tournament on 2 more occasions. Those being at the previous Olympics in Tokyo and the 2018 FIBA World Cup held in Spain.

The final exhibition fixture before the Group Stages turned out to be a one-sided affair for Team USA. And it was none other than their 2 most decorated players who ended up being the catalyst behind their 84-57 triumph. For Wilson, the evening brought her first double-double of the Olympics which comprised of 19 points and 14 rebounds.
At the same time, the 3rd-time Olympian also contributed handsomely. Her 15 points, 6 boards and 5 valuable assists played a vital hand in the team’s success. Interestingly, these two were the pick of the lot in their All-Star outing as well. That time it was Stewart who registered a double-double (31 points, 10 rebounds). Meanwhile, the Aces’ center had 22 points in the bag.
