Caitlin Clark fans boycotting Team USA—Is this justified or an overreaction?

Caitlin Clark fans were enraged when the WNBA rookie wasn’t given a spot on the Team USA women’s basketball squad for the Paris Olympics. Some admirers were so annoyed that they even resorted to speaking ill against the oldest veteran on the team, Diana Taurasi. The 42-year-old was slammed for plying her trade for Team USA when in fact, Clark who is just 22, didn’t get the chance to be on the Olympic team. And now just a few hours before Team USA’s clash with Japan, Clark fans have once again come to the fore and this time are even talking of “BOYCOTTING” the quadrennial event.

The WNBA, on a break from its regular season due to the Olympics, had posted A’ja Wilson & Co. Olympics schedule. While taking a look at the proceedings of the mega event, fans were reminded that their favorite star Clark was missing from the poster.

The poster featuring stars like Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Kelsey Plum, and Kahleah Copper, have a significant amount of experience under their belt. But none of them were as formidable as Clark in the NCAA considering she is the all-time leading scorer in men’s and women’s basketball in the college basketball circuit.

Plus, Clark was often compared to the NBA legend Stephen Curry for her logo threes. Therefore, fans were anticipating that Clark might it to the Team USA roster for the Paris Olympics and show her talent at the quadrennial events in the white, blue, and red. But unfortunately, it won’t be possible this season. And hence, a lot of fans looked disappointed for this reason.

Fans furious over Caitlin Clark’s snub

“Without Caitlin Clark!? Nah, I’m good – but thanks,” one fan stated that he wouldn’t be watching the Olympics without Clark. This comes at a time when Clark has taken over the mainstream media. Most of her home games are a complete sellout. About 3.442 million viewers tuned in to watch the WNBA All-Star game against Team USA which has become the third most-watched All-Star game in the WNBA. Therefore, the follower was furious that he wouldn’t get a chance to watch Clark in action.

“Nobody’s watching and nobody cares… Some of the best lessons have been learned the hard way,” one of the fans went as far as trying to teach Team USA selectors a lesson. As per him, it didn’t matter if Team USA was on its way to creating history by winning the eighth consecutive gold. All he wanted all for the team to be punished for not including Clark.

“Lose without Caitlin Clark and I’m making a YouTube video with laughing sounds for over 2 minutes,” another fan reminded everyone of the potential Clark brings to the team. She became the first WNBA rookie to score a triple-double when she hit 19 points with 12 rebounds and 13 assists against the New York Liberty earlier in July. Hence, according to the netizen.

“Clark clears plum and Sabrina. They both got MVPs on their team that’s not them,” another fan enumerated. The user stated that Clark would have been better than Plum and Sabrina Ionescu who have performed well for their WNBA teams but not for USA.

“Of course you are a biased Clark Stan. Everyone else has moved on. Even Caitlin has moved on. Grow up and move on,” one user, amid such opinions, came forward to support Team USA. He reminded everyone that Clark had stated after her snub that she was fine with it. Clark’s take on the matter was “no disappointment.” And hence, her fans too should move on as per the user.

Though Clark couldn’t make it to this year’s Olympics, her fans would be hoping that she gets to be a part of this quadrennial event in the coming years.
