This year’s WNBA season is yet to begin and rookies are busy preparing for the season to come. Cameron Brink, however, is grinding on a different turf right now. Renowned for her blocking skills, Brink has always been strong defensively. As a result, fans are delighted to witness her massive wingspan putting off opponents’ shots. Celebrating her extended prowess beyond college and the WNBA, Cameron’s mother, Michelle Bain Brink, was happy to see her girl in a defining stance.

The Los Angeles Spark Center has been making waves at the 2024 FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series in Springfield. As a result, Mama Brink couldn’t hold off her enthusiasm and took her joy to Instagram, sharing several posts on her stories. One of these posts features Cameron doing what she does best; block shots. The post has been captioned, “Cameron Brink Block Party.”

The roster announcement was made by USA Basketball four days ago. It stated that the United States would be represented by two teams – USA and Springfield Stop April 23rd-24th at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame at the opening event of the tournament. The Springfield roster featured Cameron Brink, Allisha Gray, Dearica Hamby, and Linnae Harper. On the other hand, the USA roster featured Brink’s former teammate from Stanford, Lexie Hall, along with Cierra Burdick, Rhyne Howard, and Hailey Van Lith.

The tournament tipped off on Tuesday with team Springfield dominating on the court. However, it wasn’t to be in the end as Canada beat Springfield in the Final to emerge as the winners. It was the first time that the Women’s Series Stop has been hosted by the United States since its inception in 2019.

Last year, Brink was named the 2023 FIBA 3×3 Women’s World Cup MVP, which was held in Vienna, Austria as her performance led the USA to a gold medal. Similarly, she participated in two 2023 FIBA U24 3×3 Women’s Series stops in Montreal and Quebec. She finished second in both the tournaments.

Brink has been playing for USA Basketball since the age of 17, hence she owns 5-on-5 gold medals from the 2018 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup and  2019 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup. Given her making a strong impact with her participation in USA Basketball, what will Cameron bring to the table for the Sparks?

Cameron Brink can become the poster girl for the LA Sparks

Cameron Brink is super pumped to have the opportunity to play under Curt Miller as her new coach in the WNBA. As a professional athlete, she will be learning the game from a fresh lens and a different approach from that of Tara VanDerveer, as she puts it, “I love to learn from all different types of coaches, all different styles of play, so I’m just really excited for his advice.”

Now with the LA Sparks, Brink will focus on expanding her role on the perimeter. “Tara is very much a low block coach and I think Kurt allows his bigs to be a little more versatile. He did say if I need to bring the ball up the floor, he wants me to bring the ball up. I think I’ll set a lot of ball screens, and have more opportunities to short roll and pop,” she added.

Cameron Brink and her towering personality are expected to become part of the team’s foundation, with all the needles pointing towards Brink being the Sparks’ next big thing.
