Cameron Brink and the LA Sparks surprised themselves with the final result of the home game. The young core under Curt Miller got the better of the 2x defending champions Las Vegas. However, most of the impressive play happened in the fourth quarter as the two teams kept showing up for their jerseys. One of the most outstanding players for the hosts was Rae Burrell who entered the game for some huge buckets that gave the team some much-needed points and motivation.

Cameron Brink’s mentor Dearica Hamby told reporters the secret ingredient to how Burrell achieved that. In the postgame press conference, Hamby said, “Rae’s been busting her a** in the practice. It’s hard when you’re putting in the work and you don’t feel like you’re being rewarded. She has just stayed ready and kept confidence in herself. You could see that the way she shot the ball.”

Adding more praise was Curt Miller’s right hand, Aari McDonald. The point guard cheered for her teammate saying, “You just got to have that mentality when your number is called. You got to step up, and you got to deliver. That’s hard to not play all game then come in. But kudos to Rae and shout to coach for believing in her.”

Rae Burrell did not have a long stay on the floor last night. However, even in the limited going, she logged 7 points and 1 rebound. While these were decent numbers, her showing up at the right time and doing the right things gave the crowd at Cryto.com Arena a memorable win. Hence, the vets commending her for her skill set was only fair. Here is how the West Coast took over the ‘Sin City’ players.

Cameron Brink and team reignite the ‘Spark’

Curt Miller has been in the league for nine years now. Although he has seen many young teams that lose hope in front of the champions, he was surprised yet again at how the Sparks are performing. LA had two back-to-back big wins. What was most impressive was that their bench contributed as much to the team’s effort as the starters.

Previously against Dallas, the bench added 34 points to make the total 81 against Wings’ 72 points. Last night as well, the bench added a total of 40 points, bringing the tally to 96 over 92 points of Vegas. Cameron Brink secured a career-high of 5 blocks against A’ja Wilson’s Aces. Dearica Hamby who has been leading the team, gave yet another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

All-in-all, Los Angeles is slowly coming back into the race. While they still only have 4 wins in 11 total games, what they have been able to accomplish in the recent games shows their capabilities. It will be interesting to see if they can keep up with their own pace and grab more wins as they now take the road for their next few games.
