Breanna Stewart of the New York Liberty made headlines last week when she shattered Diana Taurasi’s long-standing WNBA single-season points record. Taurasi had established the record at 860 points in 2006. Stewart scored 861 points from the free-throw line to reach this milestone.

Her victory, though, was short-lived because two days later Jewell Loyd of the Seattle Storm became the new record holder. Wilson was merely the third player in the league to surpass the 50-point mark.

Furthermore, Jewell Loyd also overcame A?ja Wilson’s scoring record of 53 points. Jewell Loyd’s outstanding effort came during a thrilling Friday night game and moved her to the top of the single-season scoring charts. Loyd outdid Breanna Stewart in the game, scoring an astonishing 33 points, and she set a new WNBA record with a total of 911 points in a single season.

Following the game, Jewell Loyd talked to the media while reflecting on her WNBA journey.

When asked about how she evolved as a player in the Storm, she said,

“You know you experience a lot… we were able to build a pretty good team while I was here. Won two championships. I’ve grown up a lot so just … evolution of me just is going up and, uh yeah.”

Despite Loyd’s remarkable accomplishment that night, the Dallas Wings presented a formidable challenge to the Seattle Storm and won 106-91. With 23 and 21 points respectively from Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally, Dallas earned the fourth spot in the 2023 WNBA playoffs. Seattle, on the other hand, had a poor season and missed the playoffs.
