Dark clouds loom over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in free agency. After ending their seven-year post-season drought, the Fever is looking to expand their roster and make a title run. Satou Sabally, a six-four wing who recently played in Dallas, is a part of their free agency hopes. Indiana really wants the former Dallas forward. She can play both the three and four and shoots really well, which adds a good amount of spacing for the Fever, and she can play post. However, things might not turn out the way Clark and the Fever want.
According to reports from The Athletic, Satou Sabally is not considering the Indiana Fever as her preferred destination. In fact, a lot of potential free agents are skirting away from the Caitlin Clark-led team. On paper, it looks like an ideal landing spot. Indiana and Clark command the attention of most of the WNBA viewers, the stadiums are always jam-packed, and there’s a promising future in store for the Fever.
However, there is also a problem of playing second-fiddle to Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. Both are young stars, and the No. 22 is on her way to becoming the face of the league.

WNBA free agency predictions: Kelsey Plum to the Storm, Satou Sabally to the Liberty https://t.co/LQEQ9ikHTk

Any player that comes in will have to settle for being the third option, which isn’t what most free agents are looking for. On top of that, the WNBA is picking up in popularity. Players are gonna start to get paid more, and no one wants to miss out on a big payday. That’s why most contracts negotiated this year will be of one season, and no longer than that.
Even if Sabally were to come to Indiana, they would have to depart with a significant amount of trade capital to ensure her arrival. Most trade predictions have some amount of young talent like Lexie Hull and a pick or two for Sabally. However, predictions have the Dallas Wings star being traded to the New York Liberty.
A college reunion of sorts for Sabally as she teams up with Sabrina Ionescu and company. With Sabally a tough buy, Indiana will have to look to other talent as the season approaches. It remains to be seen whether Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston can get the Indiana Fever their second championship, and what pieces they will require to do so.

Caitlin Clark’s MVP year? What does the Fever need this off-season?
With Sabally having high odds of going to the Liberty, the Fever need to reconvene and figure out what they need to get to the promised land. Simply put, they need good defenders, both on-ball and off-ball, alongside some size. According to Sabreena Merchant from The Athletic, aside from Sabally, no one fits Indiana’s requirements perfectly.
“There also isn’t a perfect fit for what the Fever require in this free agency class, unless they can trade for Sabally. She could toggle between playing the three and four, providing the necessary defense and spacing to surround Clark and Boston.” Merchant wrote in her recent article for The Athletic, highlighting the importance of Sabally if she ends up in Indiana.

However, one thing is for sure–Caitlin Clark is gonna step her game up this coming season. The star guard has drawn many eyes to the sport, and she hasn’t failed to disappoint either. Clark’s rookie year was nothing short of record-breaking, even finishing top 5 in the WNBA MVP race.
This year, Fever fans look to take everything home, including the MVP trophy as well. It will be interesting to see how Clark develops as a sophomore, and how the team around her is constructed. There are rumors that Kelsey Mitchell might not come back, so Boston and Clark will have to hold down the fort.
