Will Caitlin Clark's indecision cost the Unrivaled league its much-needed star power?

The Unrivaled is down to the last four players which many even term as the Big 4. Commencing in January, the league doesn’t just need athletes who are good at their game but also stars who can bring in audiences for the season to be a success. And hence, the most probable candidate that needs to join the league is Caitlin Clark. However, Clark looks to be weighing options as she hasn’t publicly taken a decision despite being offered $1 million. On the other hand, her ex-Iowa teammate has joined the league in a surprising move.

On Monday, the Unrivaled announced its 27th player: Kate Martin. The 24-year-old has played with Clark for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2019 season to 2024. Thus, she was a year senior to Clark, who plied her trade for 4 seasons. And recently, a post confirming her admission to the league was dropped on the social media handles of Unrivaled.

Martin had recently reunited with Clark and her Iowa teammates. She along with Clark, Gabbie Marshall, and Jada Gyamfi recorded a TikTok video while in Iowa. The snippet of the four sitting in a car and recording a rush on Kim Kardashian’s voice-over “Hi guys, we’re back. Did you miss us? ‘Cause we missed you,” gained a lot of views within minutes. While it is not known what prompted her to join the Unrivaled, whether the league had come to her or she had gone to the league, some fans speculate that Clark must have had some influence over it, considering they reunited just days ago. Meanwhile, Martin was a treat to watch in the W.

Though Martin did not get much time on the court in her rookie season, she was lauded as the next big thing for the Las Vegas Aces. The guard played for just 11.5 minutes on average but whenever she did; she made sure to prove her mettle. Her best performance came when she scored 13  points against the Los Angeles Sparks in June, which speaks volumes about her prowess. Meanwhile, Clark still looks to be thinking over her choice.

Unrivaled is trying its best to lure Caitlin Clark

Clark reportedly has been offered a ‘Messi-like’ contract. She will be making $1 million as a base salary along with getting equity in the league. Plus, she has also been offered bonuses, and revenue sharing from the media rights. Notably, TNT has signed the deal with Unrivaled and therefore, Clark would be making humongous money. Nonetheless, she hasn’t revealed her decision regarding it.

The Des Moines-born is busy practicing for the Pro-Am event which is scheduled to take place in November. Plus, she is already looking for a golf house in the Hoosier State. All this makes her fans feel as if she won’t be joining the 3×3 basketball league since she had also rejected Ice Cube’s offer to join Big3. Therefore, it remains to be seen if Clark will take the offer or let it go.
