Caitlin Clark is following through with her identity in basketball— her three-pointers. After leading the league in May for most threes in the season, it looks like the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer is only getting more feel for the deep shots. In fact, she inked her name in the WNBA record books as she made more history by joining Crystal Robinson and Sabrina Ionescu. Last night, the Indiana Fever rookie gave the crowd of a whopping 20,333 fans in the Capital One Arena a look into what power she brings to the league.

Despite a steep climb to the win tonight, the Fever’s 5-day break turned the luck towards their side. In an 85-83 win over the Mystics, Caitlin Clark added 30 points. Out of those, 21 came from her 7 shots from beyond the arc. The No. 22 consequently joined Crystal Robinson, who ironically retired from Washington Mystics in 2007. They are the only two WNBA rookies to make a total of 7 threes in a game in their rookie seasons.

In her post-game press conference, Clark expressed, “I started off missing my first two, so it was kind of annoying because both of them were pretty open. But I think it was just ‘keep shooting,’ and I thought my teammates set really good screens. I was just able to create off of those. As a shooter, once you see one or two go in, the basket just looks bigger and bigger.”

Robinson accomplished this feat on July 24, 1999, as a part of the New York Liberty. However, the 2018 WNBA championship-winning coach was not exactly a professional rookie. She had played two years in the long-lost team Colorado Xplosion of the American Basketball League (ABL) before moving to the WNBA. Apart from this, Caitlin Clark has joined Sabrina Ionescu as the only rookie to grab 30+ points, 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists, and 5+ beyond-the-arc shots in a game.

Ionescu made the record on July 29, 2020, with the Liberty. But the celebrations did not end for the Fever rookie at this.

It was a performance to remember by the 2x National Player of the Year. But adding her name to this list was not Clark’s goal. Through her 30-point display against the Mystics, she stands as the lone player for one record. Caitlin Clark is the fastest player in the league’s history to record 200+ points, 50+ rebounds, and 50+ assists.

Combining tonight’s numbers with 12 games, she has collected 202 points, 64 rebounds, and 76 assists. Caitlin Clark is also showing a well-rounded game with 18 steals and 11 blocks so far. Her average is higher than any rookie so far with 16.8 points per game. According to Women’s Hoops Network, she is also leading the rookies in assists per game and is 4th overall in the league for the same.

Given the fact that Indiana Fever has played more games than any other team so far, Caitlin Clark has shown her potential. While there is a long way to go for the rookie and her rather young team, they believe that they are continuing to improve with every game. Next, they will again face Connecticut Sun, the team that destroyed her WNBA career opener and is unbeaten so far.
