From scoring double-doubles on a streak to breaking rebound records, Angel Reese was having a dream rookie season with a valid argument for her ROTY candidacy. However, a season-ending injury that she sustained in the game against the Los Angeles Sparks, shocked everyone. While her injury announcement took aback many, Shannon Sharpe was rather skeptical about one of Reese’s opinions reflected on her injury tweet.
In a recent episode of their show, former football stars Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson delved into Angel Reese’s unexpected season-ending injury. While reading the rookie’s post over X about her missing out on the remaining season, he looked quite uncertain at one point. He couldn’t hide his disapproval, flashing a wry smirk. “I’m not so sure about that. You’re the seventh pick in the draft Angel, ” said Sharpe via Nightcap.
While Sharpe admitted that Reese performed admirably in her rookie season, her one statement puzzled him. The Sky forward mentioned in her post yesterday, “Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed.”

While the LSU alum has now explained the details about her injury, there is no denying that she made a huge mark in her rookie year. “I hurt my wrist, I’m out for the season. I fell on my hand when I got the and-one, where I fell back on my hand,” expounded Reese this Sunday. The 22-year-old forward started all the games for Sky while scoring 13.6 points along with a league-high 13.1 rebounds per game. She ended her rookie season with 26 double-doubles in total. Angel Reese also has a record-shattering 15-game double-double streak which left Candace Parker behind.

Although Sharpe is not convinced with the rookie’s perspective, Johnson offered insight into what might have driven Reese’s bold statements.

Johnson sheds light on one aspect of Angel Reese’s life, giving reasoning for her actions
Even with a stellar rookie season, many have hit Angel Reese with notable criticism. For instance, Dave Portnoy called her a ‘Clown’ after her matchup with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Many have even accused her of being envious of the rival which has fueled the controversy surrounding her. But not everyone resonates with the narrative.
Chad Johnson had a logical explanation for Reese’s disbelief about people seeing her as a deserving player in the league. “You know what I think, she more so talk about just the haters. There’s always been people chirping regards to when she was at LSU. Even when she was drafted seventh and people still chirping about anything they can find, anything they can talk about, they let it rip,” stated Johnson.
