Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky have some serious business to take care of next season. After a season that saw her cut short due to injury, the forward intends to make her season two one to remember. And she’s already answering the call from her brand-new coach, Tyler Marsh, who’s looking to overhaul the team’s shooting game.
Marsh made it clear in his introductory presser. He wants shooting, and he wants a lot of it! No more open shots left unclaimed, no more struggling beyond the arc. And the Sky rookie seems to be getting the memo already. During practice for the “Unrivaled” league, she is seen hitting one deep shot after another in a video posted by her Rose Club on X.
This is something no one really imagined after her questionable shooting form in college and her rookie year. She lacked shooting from the deep, and so did her team. The Sky was ranked near the bottom of the league last season in field goal percentage (second worst at 42.2%) and three-point shooting (fourth worst at 30.2%).

But the new coach is determined to change that. He’s been vocal about wanting every player to feel confident in their shooting, especially from beyond the arc.

As he said in his press conference, “I told Rachel (Banham) and Michaela (Onyenwere) in our first conversations, ‘when you have it, I want you to feel the confidence of letting it ride,’ and that goes for everyone as we’re gonna get you shooting some threes too.”
While Marsh is calling for all players to step up, the pressure is really on the LSU alumna. She’s become the face of the Sky, and with that comes a whole lot of expectations. Sure, Reese showed promise last season, but her shooting woes were hard to ignore.
Her field goal percentage was only 39.9%, and her three-point shooting was a rough 18.8%. In fact, there were a whopping six games where her field goal percentage didn’t even hit the 25% mark. And not to forget her college days, where she struggled from deep with just a 15.6% three-point shooting percentage.
But it could change now. The Chi-Town Barbie seems to be truly honing her shot this offseason. And that’s not the only thing she’s focusing on. Along with improving her own game, she’s been busy pulling in players to Sky.
“Get Kah Back!” Is Angel Reese bringing the former Chicago star(s) home?
Angel Reese is also trying to pull in some big names who were once associated with Sky. And that includes none other than Kahleah Copper and Gabby Williams. In the middle of an Unrivaled media event, Reese was heard chanting, “Get Kah back! Get Kah back!”

She and Copper have this hilarious bond, often joking around and sharing playful banter as they are a part of the same club ‘Rose’ in the Miami-based league. The 22-year-old even called Copper “grandma” in a loving, leg-pulling way. The chemistry between these two is real, and Reese indeed wants her back on the team. Just this year, the 30-year-old was traded to the Phoenix Mercury in a big deal that sent Michaela Onyenwere and some hefty draft picks to the Sky.
And then there was this another instance. A while back, Reese jokingly tried to recruit Williams back to the Sky, a player who was with the team until 2020. Reese has been a fan of Williams since her college days, and even though she called her attempts to recruit Williams a “joke,” we never know.
But truly, while Reese is having fun with her recruiting antics, there’s a lot of pressure on her shoulders this season. Her shooting has to improve. For now, her improvements excite us to see what she brings to the court next. And who knows? We might even catch a glimpse of that newfound shooting form in the Unrivaled.
