Is Angel Reese the future face of the WNBA, or will another rookie steal the spotlight?

Hasn’t it been her wrist injury, Angel Reese would still be in gear and balling. Even when she was in college, she would never let an opportunity pass to mention how much she wanted to be in the WNBA and compete at the professional level. This morning, the Chicago Sky rookie poured her heart out on social media, saying that a season-ending injury has struck her, “All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so.”

However, a few hours later, Reese sent out another post, showering her love on her followers and reassuring them that there is more to come from the Sky squad and wrote, “We not done yet! SKYTOWN LET’S GO!”

If not everything else, this injury has delayed Reese’s wish to be in the playoffs, which she expressed among other things in the recent episode of her recently launched podcast Unapologetically Angel.

On the show, Reese spilled the tea and said, “I want to make the playoffs so bad,” while acknowledging that the Sky need to feel good about themselves. She further added, “I think all of us do. But just being able to be patient with it, like we have to be patient and give ourselves some grace.”

The Sky had their expectations hovering at the bare minimum level as they were ranking 12th in the WNBA with only one way to go for them, i.e. upwards, and they did. Currently, they are ranking 8th in the league and fighting to clinch a playoff spot.

However, the Baltimore native also indicated her team’s rebuilding season by saying, “I think it’s just like the pressure on not just the rookies, not just like the fan base, but even my coaches, like I’d be feeling bad for T-Spoon sometime because this is her first year. We’re in a rebuilding phase and we’re still 8 right now and we’re going to continue to grow and be better.”

Is Angel Reese the future face of the WNBA, or will another rookie steal the spotlight?

Have an interesting take?

With Angel Reese out of the equation, the Sky still has six more games to compete in the regular season, bringing everything down to the wire as things might get difficult without the No. 5’s dominance on the glass.

How did Angel Reese impact the Sky with her presence?

After the Sky clinched a 92-78 victory over the LA Sparks on Saturday, Angel Reese underwent an extended medical evaluation. Consequently, the team ruled her out for the rest of her rookie season with a wrist injury. But before that, she had added another double-double to her season streak of 25 with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Since her WNBA draft, the former Lady Tiger has been setting and surpassing several records, especially in the rebounding and double-double range, making herself one of the most productive rookies in the league this season. In the paint, she has shown her domination and even fought for the ball against the stars like A’ja Wilson, who she claims is one of her idols.

As for Chicago, ranking at 8th still leaves them in a pickle as they have to face the other three, including Atlanta, Washington, and Dallas, for the playoff spot. And, with Reese being sidelined, it had become mandatory for her teammates to step up. Especially in this crucial moment, as the Dream could drop the Sky off of the playoff scene if they win and Chicago lost tonight.
