Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark together—Is this the most exciting duo in WNBA history?

The All-Star Weekend is here and the most awaited part of it as well! After 13 long minutes, both Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were on the floor together. They were already marking a historical mark for the WNBA, as two rookies were voted All-Stars for the first time since 2015. But personally, as well, these two have never been on the same team EVER! Hence, with all this build-up, the Sky rookie finally spoke up on what it really felt like playing alongside the ‘generational talent.’

When Angel Reese got a breather, she spoke up about being Caitlin Clark’s teammate. She told Ryan Ruocco of ESPN, “I know, so cool! When she gets the ball, I’m running to look for the ball ’cause I know she’s gonna throw it. She’s been great to play with. I mean in the future, we’re gonna be playing a lot together. Hopefully, in four years, we could be Olympians together.”

Unexpectedly, it was Reese who first made a pass to Caitlin Clark beyond the arc. However, the first-overall pick did not feel like it was a great look for her and chose to pass the ball away. Later in the 4th quarter, with just 6:39 left on the game clock, the league’s assist per game leader so far passed the ball over to the Sky’s forward. Reese successfully hit the bucket to extend the lead for Team WNBA to 95-86.

As for Caitlin Clark, we will have to see what she says about being on the floor at the same time as the Chi-Town Barbie. But not just the former Lady Tiger but also the entire WNBA squad was enchanted with the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer’s game.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese get praise from the vets

It is one thing to get embraced by fans. But it is a completely different honor when your veterans applaud you for your efforts. Something similar happened as the two rookies participated in their first-ever All-Star game tonight. After the huge 109-117 win over Team USA, Nneka Ogwumike (9x All-Star) and Arike Ogunbowale (4x All-Star) praised the two. In the postgame presser, the Seattle Storm forward complimented the rookies for their confidence, “I thought they were professional. As you know, anyone at this level would be.”

Have an interesting take?

She also praised the two for their performance tonight. Ogwumike said, I’m always impressed by the two of them. I think it was also really fun to see them playing together tonight. They had some synergy. The maturity that they had going in, not even just being here at All-Star, but managing all of the influx that they get as the two rookies that are really getting a lot of attention. Then, of course, being celebrated too. They helped us win too.” The 2024 All-Star Game MVP also agreed with the sentiments.

But first and foremost, everyone expected the rookies to have fun and absorb as much of the experience as they could. Surely, both agreed the same as well. For now, the WNBA will take a month-long break during the Olympics. However, we will soon see Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese go against each other in August.
