Angel Reese is back! Can she turn the tide for her team while Cardoso's misery continues?

The Chicago Sky are probably dealing with their toughest time right now. On one hand, they are determined to make the playoffs. On the other, they are tackling a series of gut-wrenching injuries. When Angel Reese fractured her wrist during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this month, the entire onus fell on Kamilla Cardoso. However, if the latest injury report is to be believed, then Cardoso’s participation in the upcoming game is questionable. The only relief for the ‘Windy City’ fans is that Reese, after missing a road game against the Minnesota Lynx, will be back in the stands to cheer for her team.

According to an update, Cardoso wasn’t seen participating in the latest shootout on Tuesday before their must-win matchup against the Atlanta Dream, but she joined in later. Thus, her taking the court against the Dream is a game-time decision that rests with Weatherspoon. This year’s third-overall pick was notably in a lot of pain when she took the court against the Lynx, despite which she scored 16 points and 10 rebounds.

After this, the management made a collective decision to field her only for 9 minutes in the first half of the next game against the Phoenix Mercury in which she could only score 2 points and 3 rebounds before being benched for the entire game. At that point, it was revealed that she had a shoulder injury. The Sky fans would be wishing for the best in such a situation for their team.

As for Reese, she incurred the injury while playing against the Sparks and has since been spotted on the sidelines, being the perfect cheerleader. However, during the last road game on Friday against the Lynx, Reese was nowhere to be found. Probably, she might be relaxing a bit after she had updated that her medical team had advised her to be off the court for six weeks and was expected to start the rehabilitation process soon. However, Reese and Cardoso are not the only ones facing a difficult situation.

Chicago Sky’s season has been marred by injuries

If Reese’s and Cardoso’s issue wasn’t enough, one of the ‘Windy City’s’ core players Diamond Deshields has a right sprained ankle which prohibited her from taking the hardwood against the Mystics last week. While the exact details of how Deshields incurred the injury are not known, the veteran guard sitting out was sad news for the squad.

However, T-Spoon came forward to opine that “we’re not going to feel sorry for ourselves,” and also advised their fans not to give them sympathy but instead concentrate on doing the job.

Previously too one of the main players Elizabeth Williams had to face a season-ending injury she incurred against the Washington Mystics in June. She suffered a torn meniscus during the game, barring her from making a return in the second half. And thus the Sky fans would now be praying that their team doesn’t go through any other grave concerns.

Whether the Sky will be able to book their seats for the payoffs still remains to be seen. But the best fans can hope for is for Cardoso to take the floor tonight.
