WNBA superstar Angel Reese has just unlocked another level. After the many tunnel walks, fashion week attendance, and a Met gala debut, she’s on the cover of Vogue! The Chi-Town Barbie graced the cover of the fashion and lifestyle magazine for the winter issue in a stunning red Versace. In exploring her role in owning the crossover of sports and fashion, which she has been rocking for a minute now, Reese came to reveal she hasn’t always been flawless in the field.
On theme with sports x fashion for the issue, Vouge teamed up with Angel Reese for her ‘game day beauty routine’. The Chicago Sky star was giving out some beauty secrets when came the revelation of a make up mistake she had been unaware of. The 22-year-old was admittedly used to applying eyeshadow all the time. But once she got a glimpse of it in her pictures, she realized she had to stop wearing that.
“If you look at all my pictures, it is either brown or like a nude. Because you ever look back at your pictures and be like, ‘oh, I should have never been doing that?’ Like I even look back on how I used to wear my lashes, I am like, ‘oh I should have never been wearing those long lashes,'” Reese admits.

A ‘humbling moment’ she calls it, coming to learn what was really good for her. Because the Chi-Town Barbie hasn’t grown up a stranger to make up. She remembers sneaking her mom’s makeup as a kid, with her grandma putting mascara on her before heading out to the court. “I wanted to look put together,” she reveals. But of course, she had the learning curves there too. The real ones to watch out for in this regard, though, were the basketball stars back in the day.
“On no, I gotta give kudos to the girls that were wearing makeup before,” Reese exclaims. “Lisa Leslie, Skylar Diggins Candace Parker. Everybody already had their edges and lashes, and lipsticks on… you gotta give kudos to them.” The Sky star also admits she would never be able to rock the red lipstick Tina Thompson wore during a game.
Reese acknowledges how social media has made it more normal for athletes to express their femininity while still dominating their sports. For her, it’s about showing that you can be both fierce and otherwise, on and off the court. She’s ditched the makeup choices she now regrets. It’s all about owning who she is while setting trends and challenging expectations.

The 2024 All-star had reportedly faced quite the scrutiny for her New Year’s fit, following which she also exited Instagram. She took to X then, to make it clear she wasn’t letting anyone get to her. Reese had re-posted SZA’s post about ‘your life is yours,’ to corroborate.
The 22-year-old has considered fashion to be her second passion after basketball. Her blond hair look at the CFDA or the red crochet dress at the Victoria Secrets Fashion show have given the glimpse. So she is continuing to show up, express herself, learn as her actions allow, but sure isn’t letting others dictate her choices.
