Thursday evening turned out to be a double delight for the Chicago fans. Not only did the Sky end their 4-game losing streak against Dallas, but the Windy City’s ferocious rookie Angel Reese also made the fixture a historic affair. Seemingly, the 3x All-American rookie registered her 7th consecutive double-double, leaving behind iconic names like Tina Charles and Cindy Brown in the process. Consequently, this number is the most by a WNBA rookie.

An elated and satisfied Angel Reese addressed the media after Chicago brushed aside Dallas 83-72. Very early in the press conference, the 6’3″ forward was asked to spare a thought or two on her historic feat. To which she replied, “Just being able to continue to get better every day. I just want to win. I came to Chicago to win.”

Earlier, Reese also acknowledged the contributions of the rookies who came before her and laid the groundwork. This list includes the likes of former Chicago stars like Sylvia Fowles, Candace Parker, and Elena Delle Donne. The 22-year-old forward expressed, “To be named with some of the great players that have come before me is amazing.” 

Finally, she opened up about the impact that her fellow LSU alumni Sylvia Fowles had on her career. Reese added, “I love Sylvia, she was a great person to me and a great mentor to me when I was at LSU. Being able to have that relationship with her at LSU, I know she’s going to be super proud of me.” 

Indeed, the gravity of this accomplishment seems to be immense for the young rookie. Now, hardly anyone would argue that she has the potential to make a name for herself in the league.

Angel Reese aims to make her debut season epic

The numbers of 16 points and a season-high 18 rebounds may be enough to rule the rookie charts. However, it isn’t enough to put Reese’s name in the legion of greats. Legendary WNBA power-forward Candace Parker holds the record for most consecutive double-doubles. Notably, Parker was also the first woman to dunk in an NCAA game. She also was the first woman to dunk twice in a single NCAA game!

Now, Reese has a huge mountain in front of her to climb if she wants to overcome the tally of 12 made by the 3× WNBA champion during the 2009-10 seasons. This will be a challenging task at hand considering the fact that Chicago’s next 5 opponents include Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever and back-to-back WNBA champions the Las Vegas Aces.

Angel Reese is proving time and again how valuable she is to Chicago. With so many accolades in her rookie season, the fans are excited about what she can bring next. What more she can delight her supporters with? We’ll have to wait and see.
