If there’s one thing basketball fans have in common with Marvel fans, it’s the fact that they both love crossovers. There’s a different kind of electricity when a superstar from one league publicly takes the time to show their respect for another on social media. Respect travels fast in the basketball world and when a WNBA star reacts to Orlando Magic’s talisman, fans know it’s something special.

Angel Reese had just two words to sum up Mac McClung’s stunning display at the Slam Dunk Contest – “3 peat. EASY.”

The LSU star quickly gained traction, leaving fans wondering: what made McClung’s achievement so “easy”? Was Mac’s third straight win of the main event in San Francisco really that effortless? Or was the LSU Tigers’ star player simply in awe of the feat?

McClung stole the show at NBA All-Star Weekend, clinching his third straight Slam Dunk Contest title. The 26-year-old faced stiff competition from Matas Buzelis (Bulls), Stephon Castle (Spurs), and Andre Jackson Jr. (Bucks). Despite Castle’s strong challenge in the final round, McClung delivered a flawless performance, earning perfect 50s across all rounds.

The basketball world erupted in support of McClung, especially Angel Reese. The WNBA star, like the rest of us, was in awe of McClung making dunks by jumping over a car and breezing through a two-handed behind-the-back jam. He took things up a notch by jumping over his lobber for a 360-degree dunk, then topping it off by slamming two balls at once while spinning mid-air. How far back do Reese and Mac go?

Angel Reese and Mac McClung: Real recognize real

Angel Reese and Mac McClung might not play in the same league. But that doesn’t mean they haven’t crossed each other’s paths in the past. Back in 2023, when McClung won his second straight Dunk Contest, he and Reese showcased their mutual respect on social media. Reese, known for her brash confidence on the court,  retweeted a clip of McClung’s slam last year with a simple fire emoji.

It was probably the first time the two interacted with each other, but it reinforced a phrase that has never really left basketball fans’ vocabulary. Whether it’s a no-look finish in the WNBA or a crazy dunk in the NBA, real recognize real.

McClung made it look easy, but don’t be fooled, his dunks took elite skill, precision, and lightning-fast reflexes that few athletes possess. And who better to recognize that than a fellow baller like Reese? With three straight Dunk Contest wins, McClung is redefining the art of dunking. And as Reese’s reaction shows, his impact isn’t limited to the NBA. The real question now is what jaw-dropping move will the three-time Dunk Contest champ pull off next?
