Is Angel Reese's impact on young girls enough to overshadow her recent performance backlash?

Angel Reese shot to national limelight as soon as she broke Candace Parker’s record of most consecutive double-doubles by hitting 15. Then she went ahead to break Tina Charles’ record of most double-doubles by scoring her 23rd against the Indiana Fever on Friday. She has set the bar so high for herself that going by her standards, her past two games haven’t been that good. And now amid condemnation for a recent performance slump, Reese opened up regarding her attitude in such distressing times about the impact she is having on the younger generation.

Reese was present during a practice session of the Chicago Sky ahead of their game against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday when she reflected on being an inspiration for young girls. A positive Reese shared her take on how it felt to be a star and commented on the responsibilities that come with it.

“It gives me an expression to keep going every day. I mean, every day is not gonna be easy but just being able to wake up but somebody is looking at me, somebody is looking at my social media. Like, how can I be here be one day. So, that’s why I try to be as positive as I can all the time and just being there for people. I just remember when I was younger, had people, but not many pros to look up to that I can actually connect with. So, I wanna be that person that they wanna connect a lot too,” Reese stated.

Reese started on a high note after the Olympic break. She hit 5 consecutive double-doubles with three of them having 20 rebounds or more. All this resulted in Reese winning over the hearts of even her critics. But unfortunately, she couldn’t follow that up with a great display. During the game against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, Reese could score a paltry 7 points despite being the mainstay of the team. However, that did not deter her from collecting 14 rebounds.
