Some standards aren’t up for debate. For Angel Reese and her mother, dating follows the same philosophy. There are rules, and they are firm. Whether it’s height requirements or financial independence, the Reese household has a game plan. And just like on the court, they’re not here for debates—they know what works.

On a recent episode of Unapologetically Angel, Reese’s mother laid out exactly what she expects from a potential partner. “If you’re 30, 40 years old, as long as I have a roof over my head, so do you guys,” she said, referring to her children. “So whoever I date needs to realize that… whoever I date, they need to be self-sufficient because I’m self-sufficient.”

Michael Reese and Angel Webb split when Angel was still young. She raised both of her kids as a single mother, sacrificing a lot along the way. The Chicago Sky guard credits her for her confidence, growth, and just really paving the way for them both. “She worked super hard,” Angel has admitted. So the mother of two isn’t playing when it comes to choosing a partner who could impact their lives.

“They need to want to date me for me and not my kids. CU I’m clocking it,” she makes clear. But Angel Webb has other demands too.

“They need to be handsome, tall—I mean, I’m six feet, I need—” Before she could finish, Angel interjected with the obvious question: How tall? Her mom didn’t hesitate. “I would say like 6’2 and above, yeah, she said. “Um, average build. Um, I would like someone who has a career, someone who is flexible to travel because I like to travel. Oh yeah, if you don’t have a passport, we—we—we can’t. I’ma pass you right on by. No passport.

The mother-daughter duo share a lot in common when it comes to their dating preferences. Reese, standing at 6-foot-3, has long been clear about what she’s looking for—and what she isn’t.

Angel Reese has a type—and “Short Guys” aren’t it

The Chicago Sky forward has never entertained the idea of dating someone shorter than her, and she made that very clear when Coco Jones asked the question on Unapologetically Angel.

No. No. I don’t know,” Reese responded when asked if she’d date a short guy. Then, as if reconsidering, she clarified: “I have not [dated guys shorter than me]. Let me just say I haven’t.” Jones, standing at 5-foot-9, argued that shorter men tend to put in extra effort. “They have a lot to prove,” he said. Reese, however, wasn’t convinced.

This isn’t the first time she’s set the bar—literally—on height. Back in September of 2024, she stated that a four-inch difference was her minimum requirement. And when discussing her ideal match, Reese made one thing clear: “Nah, he gotta be tall. Six-seven, six-eight.

That preference was reflected in her dating history. Reese previously dated 6-foot-7 Florida State forward Cam’Ron Fletcher, a relationship that started over the pandemic and lasted through 2023. The two enjoyed trips to Jamaica and New York, but in March, Reese confirmed their split.

Now back in the dating game, Reese’s scouting process remains selective. Her co-host, singer Mariah the Scientist, even joked about finding her a match. “Yeah, NBA,” Reese said when describing her type. Mariah responded, “I don’t know too many of them. I’m going to make a call. I’m gonna make a call, and I’m gonna have them make a call. And I’m gonna get you a little selection.”

For now, Reese remains focused on basketball, specifically Unrivaled and her podcast. Just like in her personal life, Reese knows what she wants in her career—and she’s getting it.
