When Angel Reese dominated at LSU, it wasn’t all under Kim Mulkey’s guidance alone. The rebounding queen had another in support keeping her nerves in check, or better yet, fueling the fire. “It’s so easy to get under her skin. When she’s not practicing hard enough, I do it on purpose,” assistant coach Gary Redus had said. Over a year in, their banter has seen no decline. And support? Just as evident. If you were to learn the scale of that, Reese is here, shouting it out loud.
In her recent post on X, the former LSU Tiger wrote, “Head Coach G Redus has a nice lil ring to it!” But she wasn’t stopping at the encouraging message. Trust the Chicago Sky star to jump on an opportunity. “Just don’t get too big time and make sure you hire me!! THANK YAAAA @iGREDUS,” she added.
The tweet comes after Redus was listed as one of the 20 assistant coaches being considered for a head coaching position by On3. And well, he has been on a rise since joining LSU in 2022.

During his years in Baton Rouge, the 2020 WBCA “Thirty Under 30” honoree trained guards every day in practice to run the offense, score at all three levels, and defend at a high level. His first-year efforts would lead the Tigers to the championship and the following year saw him bring in Hailey Van Lith, a star guard from Louisville; though she’s since moved to TCU. The program lists him as an up-and-coming assistant coach and it’s clear why.
Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow, the Tigers’ double-double machines, were also Redus’ elite talent picks. But that, of course, isn’t where he stops at. He played a crucial role in shaping Reese’s LSU career, getting her to focus on the areas required. He’d help her with shooting, but he’d also know to lay more emphasis on her rebounding skills. “She can hit 3s, but that’s not really what we need her to do,” he had said.
And well, we know the performances she has had; finishing with an average of 18.6 points and 12.3 rebounds, while shooting 49.8% from the field. As she continues to smoothen out any flaws, expect Redus to throw in some challenege.

Angel Reese Dominates Unrivaled with confidence and competitive edge
The Chi-Town Barbie’s concern with her shooting that largely depends on her confidence, isn’t news to many. Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, and even Dwyane Wade have had advices lined up for her in the regard. “The biggest advice I have for you is going to be how you shoot your layups, period,” the former of the lot had asserted on Unapollegtically Angel. And she wasn’t all talk.
As Reese headed to Miami for the Unrivaled league, she was seen practicing some three-pointers and jumpers alongside Napheesa Collier and Leslie. When a clip on the same was released, Gary Redus was there to cheer on his former player. “This is so fire!!! I know how much you crave improvement, so I love this for you!!! Foot on the gas!!!!!” he said. The Chicago Sky star would throw in a little 1vs1 challenge there and neither was backing down.
While Redus suggested Reese “work out a whoooooole lot more then,” the LSU Tigeress and a little clap back of her own. “I used to cook you. Do we need to pull up receipts???” she reminded.

Whether or not she and Redus ever settle their one-on-one battle, one thing is clear: Reese isn’t backing down. She’s bringing the same edge that made her a champion, and if anyone doubts her, well, she’s got plenty of receipts to pull up.
