It has been all champagne and hearts in the WNBA of late if you hadn’t noticed. The big bright ring on Lexie Hull’s finger, the 2-year anniversary sparkles in Caitlin Clark’s story, and the budding romance of Hailey Van Lith that had everyone gushing? Now with the 2025 season kicking off soon, you know what that means– some adorable courtside appearances! So, as the teams prepare to depart for the training camp, Angel Reese asked a question that probably many had been itching to.

The Chi-Twon Barbie may not be dating anyone, but looks like she is keeping tabs. Just 2 days before the camps commence, she took to X to inquire about one thing– appropriate tags for a male WAG (wives and girlfriends). With Victoria Beckham starting it all in 2006, the term has been a constant in the sports vocabulary. Savannah has been a part of the club for about 22 years now, and Ayesha Curry for about 16 years. Taylor Swift joined the party 2 years ago, and with the WNBA’s continued ascent, Reese believes it is time we had a term for the men, too.

“so what’s gonna be the name for the male wags??? 😅” she asked on X. But wait, before you read into it and get your hopes up, the Chicago Sky star had a line more to add. “Asking for a friend,” she wrote. While we know that’s just a lie we’ve heard countless people say, she’s got a point.

Connor McCaffrey has arguably been Clark’s biggest cheerleader for 2 years now, enough for the 2024 ROTY to call him “favorite person in the whole world.” Jalen Suggs was right there when HVL heard her name be called as the No.11 pick, and in No.10 jersey, just days prior, as TCU stormed through the March Madness.

You are aware of Bam Adebayo’s silent cheers for A’ja Wilson and Alex Bazzell loudly aiding Napheesa Collier’s vision for Unrivaled. Then trust Hroniss Grasu to keep Sabrina Ionescu in check if she ever slacks off during workouts. Yeah, we could keep going. But you get the point. These partners have been crucial in the WNBA stars’ journeys. And as they continue to bolster confidence, it’s only fair they have a special title, too.

Angel Reese had that support for a while when she was in college and dating Cam’Ron Fletcher. “He’s really supportive… He’s known me before all of this has happened, so it’s a genuine relationship and he understands me,” she had said. But the two have been broken up for over a year now and the Chi-Town Barbie hasn’t spoken about anyone since. If anything, she has only made her expectations clear over and over again.

The right match for Angel Reese

In an episode of “Unapologetically Angel” last year, Reese gave us an insight into what her type is like. Rapper Latto, a guest on the podcast alongside Mariah the Scientist, had asked the question and Reese had one demand– “He got to be tall.” She means 6’7” or “6’8″. But that won’t be all. While Reese has consistently emphasised she is looking for a guy taller than herself, she is also looking for someone who could live up to the lifestyle she has built for herself.

“I have a standard of what I live up to and how I live my life,” Reese said when asked if she’d date a guy who earned less than her. “And as long as you can meet up to that and meet my expectations, then yeah. And as long as it’s genuine.” She isn’t expecting one to go out of their way and spend money on something he can’t afford twice. But someone who can comfortably meet her standards– just know what you are getting yourself into.

Now we do not know if she has found the perfect fit or not. We likely wouldn’t for a while, because Reese has admitted it to be a scary world having every detail of life scrutinized, so she’d rather keep the status under the blankets. Maybe the recent tweet is an indication of that, or maybe she’s genuinely asking for a friend. After all, Hull and her grew to be almost besties during Unrivaled and HVL just joined her in Chicago.
