Thirteen double-doubles in a row! Is Angel Reese the future face of the WNBA?

She has done it! Congratulations are in order for Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese as her relentless determination has led her to move past legend Candace Parker. In today’s game against the Seattle Storm, Angel Reese registered her 13th consecutive double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. With this feat, she has surpassed Candace Parker’s 12-consecutive game double-double record with flying colors. However, the 22-year-old only had words of praise for the 3x WNBA champion.

When asked about being the one to break Parker’s record, Angel made a heart-touching recognition of the WNBA great and said, “She’s the goat. I mean, I’ve had conversations with her, her family, her mom. I’ve talked to them before I even came to Chicago and built that relationship before. I’ve always respected CP, CP3 and I try to even just take some things from her game and try to add them to mine and just being able to be named with an amazing player like that is just always going to be special to me.”

It was only last week when Reese made history after she recorded her 10th consecutive double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds against Minnesota and surpassed Candace Parker for the most consecutive double-doubles in a single season. Parker had set the record at the end of the 2009 WNBA season. Then, she extended this streak to 12 games early on in the 2010 season. Now, 14 years later and at a difference of one week, Angel Reese has raised the bar.

In these 13 games, the Sky has a 5-8 record while Reese has averaged 16 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. Last night, she finished the game with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 steals. Moreover, Reese is leading the WNBA with 11.9 rebounds.

Despite this honorable achievement, Angel Reese credits her shot to fame and success to her teammates.

Angel Reese embraced her team for her record-breaking display

In the post-game interview of Chicago’s 88-84 winner against Seattle, Angel Reese and Chennedy Carter had a historic night. Reese finished with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds while extending her double-double streak to 12 games. On the other hand, Carter registered a season-high 33 points, shooting 15 for 24.

It was the night when Reese tied her double-double streak with WNBA veteran Candace Parker, however, she took this big moment with humbled grace and credited her teammates for this achievement.

“I know my teammates need me in moments like that, so I try to do whatever I can to help win. Obviously, I got not as many rebounds so I had to kind of get to the basket more tonight but of course it’s easy playing when everybody’s trying to guard Chennedy. I can kind of move around and get open and be open so she kind of makes my job easy.”

Acing the league in rebounds, Angel Reese is indeed dominating despite being a rookie, and she sure knows how to take success gracefully instead of dwelling on it.
