If someone can compete with Caitlin Clark, it’s none other than Angel Reese. The one vote that stopped Clark from being the unanimous ROTY had gone to the Chicago Sky star. With her double-double streak and impressive 13.1 rebounds per game average, Reese had been neck to neck. But, everything went in vain when “Chi-town” Barbie landed up on her own wrist. This cost her the remaining few games of the season along with the Rookie of the Year title. Now that she’s on the verge of beginning Year 2, Wade has some advice for her.
On the 3rd October episode of ‘Unapologetically Angel’, Dwyane Wade joined “Chi-Town Barbie” to discuss a few topics surrounding the WNBA. When the Chicago Sky star asked for some advice to grow her game in the coming year, Wade had one point: Recognizing your skills and building on them.
“I just saw moments this year where you actually did the next step. It is just about doing it more,” Wade says speaking about Reese’s jump shots. The Chi-Town Barbie admits it is something she hadn’t done in college. Thus, taking her initial steps, it remains an area of weakness for Reese, averaging 18.8% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc. But Wade believes the 22-year-old has it in her and just needs to focus on it.

“Now extend your game. You know you hit some threes this year. You know what I mean. You have it. So now it’s about working on it. Being consistent with it. You got to go out there to the game, you got to trust it. Don’t go to the gym and work on something you don’t trust,” Wade adds.
The rookie has indeed been exceptional this season but more on the defensive end, averaging 13.1 rebounds to lead the league. She broke some stellar records and extended her double-double streak with each game she played. However, her three-point remained a concern. But maybe not for much longer.

Angel Reese not far off
Reese averaged 15.6% from beyond the arc in her college run and a mere 11.1% in her final year, going just 1 of 9. Her first year in the W thus proves to be a good trajectory. Moreover, she has shot 44.5% from within five feet of the hoop this season. A decent number, though a bit of a dip since her LSU average. But this has only showed the potential the 22-year-old holds. At least Sue Bird seems to believe so.
“She kind of knows what shots she’s going to get… All she really needs to do is bump up her shooting percentage by like 3, 4, 5 points. We’re looking at a kid who’s currently averaging like 13 and 13, but it could be 18 and 13… she’s not far off because those shots are coming,” Bird had said on her ‘A Touch More,’ podcast last month.

Reese does reveal it has been tough for her to get on the court and take those shots, something she is not used to. But it isn’t like she has seen no progress. So adding on to Wade’s advice to focus on and trust her skills, the Sky standout reveals it is ‘confidence’ that she really needs to wear for the year 2. “That’s it,” declares the Miami Heat star, her fifth guest. “You have confidence in your bag, you add other things.”
