Are you ready with your WNBA 2025 mock drafts? Talented and multifaceted athletes are available for selection, capable of filling in the ‘void’. And the teams are not letting this opportunity go, trying to strengthen their rosters for the 2025 season and possibly the long-term future too. The Chicago Sky is no exception. After a busy off-season, they made a massive move just hours before the ‘big announcements,’ and their star player Angel Reese instantly reacted to the news. First, check out the trade…

The Sky is adding to their pool of draft picks and has agreed to a trade with the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday evening. The franchise shared a post confirming the trade, as the Sky has now acquired the No. 11 pick in this year’s draft from the Lynx. In exchange, they sent their 2026 first-round pick to the Lynx and extinguished a prior 2026 pick swap agreement. Smart move or desperate measures?

Anyhow, the Sky will now have two first-round picks with No. 10 and No. 11 selections. Adding to these, they own the No. 16 and No. 22 picks. Four players out of the 2025 WNBA draft will enhance the Sky’s rookie profile. And the team’s megastar Angel Reese is loving it. Posting two hearts and celebration emojis, Reese gave her nod to the move. It may be silent, but clean as a whistle. But what does this move mean? And why is Reese excited about it?

Firstly, having multiple top draws in the draft is always a welcome sign. Sky themselves benefited from drafting Reese as the seventh overall pick last season. Now with 10th and 11th picks, the East side will look to add more young talent to their roster. Last season’s rookie Reese had an outstanding outing with 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds – and was a major contributor to the WNBA’s overall rise in 2024. The most followed athlete from the league knows the importance of building the team, for now and for the future.

General manager Jeff Pagliocca also sides with Reese’s views. “We believe the 2025 draft class is deep and we’re excited about the flexibility we obtain by acquiring another first-round pick this year,” Pagliocca said in a statement. The No. 11 pick represents another route to improve our roster.”  One would imagine the Sky has specific players in mind to make their moves a success.

As the 2024 WNBA draft showed, incoming top-bracket rookies can make a strong impact. While the Sky have already made multiple offseason moves, landing key contributors from the draft could be one way to expedite a return to the playoffs.

Who will the Chicago Sky select after the new trade?

In the 2024 season, Chicago’s rookies were a shining spot for the franchise. Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso made it to the All-Rookie team, and Chi-Town Barbie was exceptional; she led the league in rebounds and made it into the All-Star team. But since the team missed out on the playoffs, they knew they had to address the key issues. Their backcourt struggled after Mabrey’s departure, and their 3-point shooting ranked among the league’s worst.

Hence, they have already put their roster into rebuilding mode, adding two-time All-Star Ariel Atkins, Kia Nurse, Courtney Vandersloot, and Rebecca Allen. With these experienced stars, the Sky wanted to make sure they took care of the future, too. The side traded Dana Evans to the Aces for the 16th and 22nd picks in the 2025 WNBA draft.

So, now after the recent trade, the team will look to complement their forwards, targeting a guard capable of playmaking and shooting from the range. In that manner, Hailey Van Lith could be a viable option; however, it is a bit hazy if she will fall to the No.10. Another option includes Saniya Rivers, who Pagliocca said is “maybe the best overall athlete in the draft”. Fair enough. After all, she can be your buddy when you need to cover positions from the 2 to the 4.

Also, the team should keep their eyes open for the international prospects as well. They are no joke. Consider Justė Jocytė, who has been playing in the EuroLeague since 14! And you just cannot count out Makayla Timpson, whose wingspan is just crazy! Serena Sundell? Yeah, she is in the list too.

While the rebuilding is nearly complete, fans will be eager to watch how it translates on the court. Well, the Chicago Sky’s season will start on May 17 as they take on high-profile rivals Indiana Fever, who, by the way, also made a massive splash in the off-season.
