The bond between Angel Reese and A’ja Wilson goes a long back. Reese had, in one of her interviews, revealed that she considers Wilson her idol and fashions the one-legged sleeve inspired by the reigning WNBA Finals MVP. Next, whenever Wilson and Reese would meet on court during the Aces-Sky clash, the duo would be photographed together, showing glimpses of their connection. This only amplified with time as, in one instance, Reese revealed that she would wear the Aces’ star’s Nike sneakers if she was not with Reebok. Therefore, when Wilson accomplished a rare feat, the Maryland-born came forward to congratulate her icon.
Reese took to X to applaud Wilson for her latest achievement. The 22-year-old shared a post of Wilson’s highest points ever in a single season. “CONGRATS A! You deserve this! Forever & always my favorite player!! 🙏🏽🔥💐,” Reese tweeted on Thursday. Notably, the former Gamecock scored 27 points in her game against the Indiana Fever on Wednesday to cruise to 956 points this season, making it the highest by any in a singular W year. Wilson, with this, surpassed Jewell Loyd, who had scored 939 points in 2023 and is looking to inch to the 1000-mark in the next four games.

When the Las Vegas Aces star stepped on the court this season, she made it clear that she wanted to go for the MVP award. In order to get the honor, Wilson became her team’s offensive leader, which took precedence over other responsibilities, especially due to the absence of Chelsea Gray. A season that started with a noteworthy 30 points against the Phoenix Mercury in May saw her hit 41 against the same veteran team this month earlier. And now with her latest achievement, the 2x WNBA Champion has become the highest single-season scorer in the W.
Wilson, since the beginning of the game, showed her mettle by adding the first 10 points for Las Vegas single-handedly. She ultimately eclipsed Loyd’s record by hitting a jumper from the free-throw line. The noteworthy thing was that while Loyd needed 38 games, the MVP frontrunner reached the milestone in only 35. The previous best from Wilson was in 2023 when she scored 912 points. As for Reese, she had spoken about ditching her Uncle Shaquille O’Neal, if she could, all for her favorite WNBA player.

Angel Reese expresses her unfulfilled wish
When the sporting giant Reebok was looking to expand its horizons and make a comeback in the basketball industry, it signed the NBA legend Shaq as the President of Basketball Operations. The 4× NBA champion has close relations with Reese, who calls him her Uncle. Hence, in October last year, Reese signed an NIL deal with Reebok through Shaq intending to uplift the company. But when Wilson revealed her shoe deal, Reese revealed her wish that most probably wouldn’t be fulfilled anytime soon.

Wilson started working on her shoes with Nike in 2023 and as per a latest announcement will be launching her own pair in spring 2025. And as the date comes closer, Reese too looks to have been taken over by A’One’s craze. Hopefully, Wilson’s fans too will grab their pair as soon as they hit the shelf.
However, going by her agreement with Reebok, it doesn’t look like Reese will be donning them. Nonetheless, Reese would surely be part of Wilson’s celebrations and hopefully, the Aces star will reach the 1000-mark soon.
