The month of August has seen Angel Reese shatter records on and off the court. She has scored 20+ rebounds in 3 straight games and become the only WNBA player to achieve the feat. She also secured three new ventures- Unapologetically Angel (podcast), Reebok x Angel collection, and Reese’s Pieces. Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe also appreciated the collaboration with the chocolate brand, The Hershey Company. And it’s not the first time the Sky rookie has received the backing from the two legends.
On the latest episode of their podcast, Soccer legend Megan Rapinoe called it one of the “coolest” collaborations because of the novelty of the situation where a personal brand and a company brand come together to make something organic. Her co-host and life partner Sue Bird agreed and said, “I think the interesting part is just how she and her whole fan base, kind of like, spoke this into existence.”
Rapinoe even had an idea for the $40 billion brand that they can integrate with the on-court abilities of Angel Reese.”I think that we should somehow try to tie in her prolific rebounding with Reese’s Pieces,” she said, via A Touch More. Further, her partner added, “If she gets 10 rebounds, the whole crowd gets a pack of Reese’s Pieces? I want to see it happen.”

Even though the Ballon d’Or Féminin winner wants it to happen, The Hershey Company might not find it feasible. Currently, the Sky is averaging 8,763 people in attendance at home in the 14 games. On top of that, Angel Reese is averaging 12.9 rebounds every game. And her recent 3-game streak of 20 rebounds would mean that the entire crowd receives 2 packs of Reese’s Pieces.
Although it is for the company to decide about the future of the collaboration, Rapinoe was 100% behind the project. She said, “Intersection pulling the culture into basketball and I just love to see it.” Even in the last week’s episode, she backed another Angel Reese’s project.
Angel Reese and her anti-cyberbullying project
Angel Reese is leading a project called ‘Block the Negativity, Post Up Positivity.’ She has teamed up with The Net, a mental health network for women in sports, and the agency BarkleyOKRP to introduce an innovative AI tool. The application will automatically recognize and blur out the harmful comments and will replace them with the message, “Negativity Blocked.”

Rapinoe, who herself remains a subject of online abuse even after hanging up her boots, urged more athletes to look for a solution. She even appreciated Angel Reese for speaking up and prioritizing this issue.
“I love Angel for this. This is really cool using her really big platform to combat it,” she said via the third episode of her podcast. She’s dealt with so much. I mean the racism, the sexism, the homophobia; all of it in there for female athletes is crazy so this is really cool from Angel, shoutout Angel,” she added.

She also urged everyone on social media apps to be kinder to each other. There is no doubt that Angel Reese is trying to maximize her potential on the court with off-the-court deals. With her anti-cyberbullying project currently in beta testing with the Chicago Sky players, she seems determined to end the hateful trend soon.
