The rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark just took a new turn, with Reese making headway in a new direction! Between the Indiana Fever star and the Chicago Sky forward, fans got an interesting storyline in the 2024 WNBA season. It was genuinely exciting for the crowd to see the two compete and build up narratives surrounding the two young stars. However, in most facets, Caitlin Clark pulled ahead.

She won the ROTY honors, her team made it to the post-season, and the praise she was getting was endless. Reese, after recovering from a season-ending wrist injury, is now suiting up for Rose BC in the Unrivaled 3×3 basketball league. The six-foot-three forward has the chance to overtake Clark and bolster her supremacy.

Unrivaled’s newest partner, Morgan Stanley, has a bunch of benefits for the athletes involved in the league. The company is looking for a place on the playing court’s pole pad, as well as some social media coverage from Unrivaled. In return, they are offering the 36 Unrivaled athletes some “financial empowerment opportunities,” according to Sports Business Journal. It is unclear what exactly these opportunities are, but they give Reese the ability to get ahead of Clark.

Caitlin Clark has been getting sponsorship deals left and right—big companies, at that. Meanwhile, Angel Reese is focusing on her collaboration with Reebok and Reese’s candy. This is an opportunity for the ‘Bayou Barbie’ to pull through and assert her mark on the world independently of Caitlin Clark.

Therefore, her financial investments with the help of Morgan Stanley, could be just what she needs to leave CC in the dust. Her Unrivaled salary, alongside her brand endorsements and this empowerment opportunity, helps Angel Reese diversify her portfolio.

The Unrivaled is being marketed as a player-owned league, and they are certainly treating their players like it. Do you think Angel Reese will take the lead against Caitlin Clark? Her salary for Unrivaled is more than thrice her WNBA yearly wages. Until the WNBA catches up, or Clark joins the league, Angel Reese will have a leg up against CC.

Angel Reese’s WNBA wages—enough to scrape by?

It is well known that the WNBA does not pay all that well, especially to rookies. Some have it extremely bad, while some have it really easy. Angel Reese is part of the latter group. The six-three forward is on a $324,383 contract spanning the next four years. This means that her yearly salary is over seventy thousand dollars. While that is a lot of money for someone like Reese? She should definitely be getting more.

Angel Reese mentioned a while back how her WNBA salary cannot even pay her rent, which is worth $8000 a month. Even though Reese is not strapped for cash in any way, shape, or form, that’s still sad. She said that she “would not be able to live” on her yearly basketball salary if we only count the NBA. This is where Unrivaled comes in.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Angel Reese's Unrivaled salary give her the edge over Caitlin Clark's sponsorship deals?

Have an interesting take?

The player-owned and developed league offers a minimum six-figure salary for 8 weeks of play. This eliminates the players’ need to go overseas just to make a living during the summer. WNBA contracts are not often big enough for the athletes, and Unrivaled is working hard to make sure that they have everything they need. The financial empowerment opportunities on top of the fair wage would mean Angel Reese and other stars can thrive rather than just survive.

What do you think? Will Angel Reese leave CC in the rearview mirror through this league? Will Unrivaled be a huge hit? We will find out soon enough.
