The names of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark echo in college basketball, with the WNBA draft approaching. At the same time, the women’s basketball league has been getting much-deserved attention. With a 16 percent increase in viewership in the 2023 season compared to the previous season, the league is growing beautifully. A lot, perhaps, boils down to this set of players. The Houston Comets legend Sheryl Swoopes is no stranger to the two most enviable star athletes of college basketball today. While talking to the ESPN reporters, Sheryl broke out a tough reality check for both Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. Talking about their professional career, Sheryl dropped a hardball by stating that they might be star players in college basketball. However, that will likely not be the case once they enter the professional league.
When asked how LSU’s Angel Reese would be as a pro, Sheryl said, “Angel will eventually be a good pro. I don’t think Angel will come into the league immediately and dominate the way people think she will.” At the same time, she did not exactly have a comfy couch for Iowa’s incredible performer to land either. For Caitlin, she said, “So, will Caitlin Clark be a good pro? Absolutely. Will Caitlin Clark immediately come into the WNBA and do what she’s doing right now, immediately? Absolutely not. Not going to happen.”

There is no question that every player in the professional league was once an impactful collegiate athlete. However, while these two players have surely increased the level of college basketball, they have no experience in the WNBA.
Once you become a part of any WNBA team, you will fight your claws out to make an impact. Further, fewer spots on the roster and even fewer minutes to be on the hardwood only add to the competitive nature of the WNBA.
