Angel Reese may have made her way to the pros, but her influence at LSU is still going strong. After all, she led the team to its first national championship. Recently, Mulkey pulled a move with senior Aneesah Morrow that had reporters doing a double-take. But what was that particular moment?
With three and a half minutes to go, Mulkey pulled Morrow out despite her being a rebound short of a double-double. “I did,” Mulkey confirmed, aware Morrow was just one board away. “I thought if I sit right here waiting for her to get a double-double, and she gets injured, then I’ll beat myself up all night.”
However, LSU’s defense slacked momentarily, and Mulkey instinctively threw the 6’1 forward back in to grab that elusive tenth rebound. “If she would have gotten it, great; if not, she played a good game tonight,” Mulkey added.

True to form, the 2022 WBCA Freshman of the Year stayed humble, not lobbying to return. The HC even admitted in the postage conference that it wasn’t her personality to push for personal stats. Now, Reese fans might remember a similar approach from Mulkey in past seasons.
She’s no stranger to this protective play style, especially with star players. Last season, Reese herself nearly snagged a double-double, ending with 19 points and nine rebounds against Virginia Tech.
In the same game, the Tigers’ senior guard’s 19-point, 15-rebound show against Virginia followed as she defended ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley. Well, she has always stepped up whenever the team required, including in the recent match-up.

Undoubtedly, Morrow was at the heart of the action, scoring 20 points on an impressive 9-of-11 shooting and pulling down 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. And guess who became the primary reason the Lady Tigers had such control over the game?
Obviously, Aneesah! Flau’jae Johnson also stepped up, scoring 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and Mikaylah Williams, coming back from a minor ankle injury, chipped in with 18 points and six rebounds.
At the same time, sophomore Sa’Myah Smith put up 15 points and 11 rebounds. Despite missing some key guards, LSU held Eastern Kentucky to just 26% shooting. “They missed a lot of open shots,” Mulkey noted.
