Is Caitlin Clark deserving of all the hype she gets? Why does no one put Angel Reese at the top after her relentless runs? Many questions and storylines surround these two rookies of the 2024 draft class. Every time someone picks one over the other, they have to be ready to take the brunt of the other side. This time around, it is ESPN’s commentator Andraya Carter. Following her applauding remarks on the Indiana Fever rookie, the Chi-Town Barbie fans are clamoring up to go against the young reporter.

In a recent episode of NBA Today on ESPN, Cassidy Hubbarth and Andraya Carter graded Caitlin Clark’s rookie season so far. Therein, the former Lady Vol, Andraya Carter, said, “I would give Caitlin an A!” She also justified her grading, stating, “If you subtract Caitlin’s turnovers from her assists in her last 10 games, she still leads the league in assists – which is where the separation starts to come in.” She also talked about her chemistry with her teammates. However, she also mentioned how while she has not solidified herself as the ROTY yet, has separated herself quite well.

Caitlin Clark is averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists right now. However, this month, she tallied her averages to 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 12.5 assists per game. She became the first WNBA player to put up that stat line in a month. As a result, she grabbed the Rookie of the Month for July. But Angel Reese too has been doing an incredible job. Her 15-game double-double streak and being the second in the league for rebounds per game are some proof.

Hence, after the first overall pick got the love and the Sky rookie did not, her fans are taking shots at the reporter for being against Angel Reese.

Fans rain fire on Andraya Carter for putting Caitlin Clark on a pedestal over Angel Reese

It is not an easy debate as to who is better than the other in this case. Especially, because the Iowa alum is being the true point guard for her WNBA team. On the other hand, the former Lady Tiger is showing her dominance in the paint. This is the very reason why many believe that Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese should get a co-Rookie of the Year award. But when ESPN’s reporter clearly marked the 2x Honda Trophy awardee to be ahead in the race, she made the fans rile up against her.

One of them came up to mention her previous words that completely put the No. 5 of the Chicago Sky out of the picture for the Rookie of the Year race. Then, Carter had apparently mentioned that Caitlin Clark has no competition for the WNBA honor. However, the forward has proven her words wrong. In fact, entering into the 9th week, Angel Reese was ahead in the ROTY race because of her double-double streak.

“Andraya Carter has never liked Angel Reese. She was one of the naysayers. Why would y’all take anything that, that woman says seriously?”

Not many agreed that both these rookies will have a sudden impact on their teams. In fact, Sheryl Swoopes and Andraya Carter both doubted the two NCAA rivals in translating their games despite agreeing that they will eventually be the best of the best. An Angel Reese fan resonated with the same taking to the comments. They asked the public whether they were ready to talk about how the reporter who should be neutral in choice is somehow against the Baltimore native.

“so y’all still not ready to talk about Andraya Carter hates toward/against Angel Reese? 👀”

The ROTY award and the discussions surrounding it are getting on everyone’s nerves. Specifically, because we do not have a clear winner. While Caitlin Clark came into the league as a heavy favorite for the award and remains a front-runner, Angel Reese has certainly made her presence known. Chicago is not just winning but they are winning over powerhouses like the Las Vegas Aces. But so is Indiana. Certainly, a very confusing story to read. Hence, a fan commented on how Andraya Carter has not been decisive so far but now has Clark “separated” from the rest.

“wow just a week ago she was still undecided between cc and angel reese”

Another follower commented on how a Rookie of the Year honoree should be great at both offense and defense. However, it is only Angel Reese who has shown this quality clearly. While Caitlin Clark is the league’s only rookie to set a triple-double, Reese’s 17 double-doubles so far cannot be ignored.

“ROTY needs to impact both sides of the floor. Caitlin is an incredible offensive player but struggles on defense.”

While everyone was going against the reporter, one Caitlin Clark fan chose to pick another fight. They called out Angel Reese fans on the post as they opined how they would not be able to breathe right now. Surely, Barbie has many loyal followers, but so does the Des Moines native. Still, maybe talking about how not mentioning Reese in one report can hyperventilate people seems too much.

“Now let’s wait for the other side to react. They could be hyperventilating for their favorite right now LMAO”

There is no doubt that when Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark come into the same conversation, a polarity is bound to happen. Although there’s half of the season left, it will be interesting how the race really turns out in the end.
